Community Members,
I am following up on our April 25, 2012 posting to share with our communities a series of new and updated documents that the Joint Working Group and Founding Board, with input from both board Treasurers, have been developing in response to questions our communities have raised regarding the proposed merger.
Although it is important to note that final decisions regarding budgets and other related matters will be made, if the merger is approved, by the full board of the merged organization, we hope that these strategy and overview documents will provide the clarity that members have been seeking. We would encourage everyone to review these materials and post questions, comments or concerns to the Jasig-Sakai Collaboration Google Group at: http://groups.google.com/group/jasig-sakai-collaboration.
We are in the process of creating navigation links from the main Apereo.org web site to these NEW documents and thus are including direct link to each document to facilitate access right away.
(1) Jasig-Sakai Merger Financial Report Analysis and Strategy Overview - Provides historical financial context, financial benefits and investment strategies related to the merger. Access directly at: http://www.apereo.org/financials
(2) Apereo Licensing and Intellectual Property Strategy - Provides an overview of the proposed strategy as well as a comparison of current licensing models used by Jasig and Sakai. Access directly at: http://www.apereo.org/licensing
In addition to these new documents, we have also updated the following:
(1) Proposed Transitional Apereo Membership Fee Structure - We have added information regarding fees for members wishing to join Apereo who were not previously members of either Jasig or Sakai. The updated version of this document can be accessed directly at: http://www.apereo.org/fees
(2) Appendix for Bylaws - We have updated Appendix D. The updated version of this document can be accessed directly at: http://www.apereo.org/bylaws
Finally, we are awaiting attorney review of current merger paperwork and processes related to the membership vote which may affect the timeline for voting. We will update community members prior to Monday, May 21, 2012 regarding the outcome of this review.
