Hello,

As non-profit organizations, both the Sakai Foundation and Jasig are
required to make certain filings with the Internal Revenue Service, the
U.S. federal tax agency. This a routine requirement, and the filed
documents are "open to public inspection" under U.S. law.

These filings give some insight into the finances of each organization,
something that members may wish to consider as they learn more about the
proposed merger. If anyone is interested in looking at these, here are
some links:

I encourage the Apereo Founding Board and the Joint Working Group to
make updated 2011 financial information available to members as it
becomes available.

Hello again,

Jim Farmer dug into his extensive archives and found some older Jasig 990s.

The Apereo Founding Board and Joint Working Group has been working over the past couple of weeks to develop a report that synthesizes the data from these i990 forms so as to provide more than just the raw data but, hopefully, useful analysis and information.  As some of this work is being done, as is the case in many of our open-source efforts, by volunteers, it has required some time to finalize.  It is also the case that we want to include 2011 data, if at all possible, which, because of the timeline for filing it with the US Internal Revenue Service, is actively being done right now by the Jasig and Sakai accountants.

The work is progressing well and we hope to be able to share it publically in the near-term.  We recognize that there are important questions that our communities have about this data and we are taking that very seriously by making this a major priority.  We will continue to keep folks updated but please know that we are making every effort to post this report as soon as possible.

Thanks Josh!

I appreciate your putting these raw informational tidbits in better context and reminding us that we are all part of a collaborative community, where answering questions is as welcome as asking them.
