Hello everybody,
In a few updates back, they added an auto tracking, locking function in RB. And I think it's ruining the game.
Now, tanks are like small SPAAs shooting in the skies at aircrafts and dealing ridiculous damage with their roof machine guns. Even shooting planes with their main guns regularly. It's just ridiculous, the game is broken.

I takes incredible skills and a good measure of luck for a tank to hit a plane flying at high speeds. And now, we see jets downed by tanks like all the time. You take a plane, fly above the battlefield for a minute and your whole plane is yellow, orange, in flames etc... It's ridiculous.

I took time to see where it came from. Is there a new cheat mode? Is it the aim assist helping the console folks to aim on their silly controllers? No. Not even that. It's just in the game, there is an auto tracking feature, you can now lock air targets, push a button, and the gunner will follow the air target. It will track the air target through buildings, forests, all you have to do is add a little correction and the plane will come down.

I could understand such a thing in SPAA, maybe the crew is trained for that. Maybe on very modern tanks with anti-air capabilities. Maybe... I don't know for sure. But now, you see WW2 tanks do that. Anybody can do that in fact.

Right now, the game is broken. Aircrafts fall like flies. You can't sneak on tanks anymore, they just pump that lock button, and if a plane is in the area, it will be tracked.

If the planes manoeuvers behind a building to hide its position, the tracking will stay on it.

And we still call that Realistic Battle?
Why not call it "slightly harder arcade mode".

Anyway, the game is broken for all I care.

We need to ask them to fix that.

and to OP if you think this "cheat" makes hunting air easier then you are wrong, it dont show you any lead where to shoot, inly show you where 1 aircraft is, also radar shows you incorrect lead and 90% dont work

i tell you one thing, this "cheat" did not help you that much, in fact it helps you locate aircrafts with AGM at a long distance, and you must know loads of players beaching about helis killing them from 5-8km or the g.91 nord problem

It would be a nice mechanic for modern 10.X MBTs which had FCS aviable. Tanks without FCS shouldn't have this. Gajin please let realistic be sort of realistic. Same for Air RB and certain tweaks like too short time limits for matches etc...

If Arcade is a bit too arcadey for alot players, make arcade a bit more realistic (reduce the bracket nonsense, so its possible to sneak up upon enemies., reduce the horsepower bonus so tanks feel like tanks, make it possible to spawn own planes). Thats far better than making realistic more arcade to catch those player which are annoyed by current arcade ruleset.

Am I missing something? If I use this "tracking" the only thing it does is put a rectangle around the plane so I can easier "spot" it (this is rarely a problem anyway). But it does not help me to lead the target or tells me where to aim. How does it make it easier to shoot down anything what flies?

You're correct in that it's not actually a cheat or bug, it's an intended feature that was added a while back, disabled then enabled again. You can actually find an existing thread about the topic here as an example.

I'd recommend using this thread specifically as there's already a good amount of discussion on the topic, you can also try to ask for a change in the questions for the team section, or the constructive criticism section if you want more direct feedback for the developers.

If OP is just whining because he doesn't get to bomb tanks with as much impunity as he was used to, well, tough feces buddy. You've got bombs that can take out tanks with a near miss. You don't think it's fair that tanks should have at least a fighting chance at surviving? Do you like all your fish in a barrel?

Not realistic enough lol ... its a 3rd person game where people camp behind corners/hills and wait to pop out. How is that remotely realistic?

If you don't the game mode then try sim. You get nothing except a map.

Sim is pretty dead. There are a lot of players in RB who would switch to sim in a heartbeat if it was made a real game mode again. The constant arcadification of RB is driving players towards it, and I wish Gaijin would give sim another chance to be viable as a game mode.

Something is completely wrong in your thinking.

First, it's realistic for tanks to fear tanks, helis and aircrafts. They are made to destroy tanks. Most tanks can't survive a bomb blowing up next to them. I can show you WW2 pictures of Tiger 1 Tanks upside down because a bomb went off next to them. Blown off? Not really, but out of combat.
Helis are made to destroy tanks.

You don't like being hunted by helis? Getting CAS in your face? Go play Call of Duty. Really. Because tanks have to deal with these threats in real life.

Real life is the gold standard here. If you want to balance the game and give tanks a tool to defend against helicopters, let's give them laser canons on top of their turret while we are at it. Believe me, no aircraft would dare approach you. Just zap them from the sky for 10miles away.
But it wouldn't be realistic. This is NOT Star Wars.

This tracking system is silly and unrealistic. So, it's a game breaking feature. In RB at least. AT LEAST. I would say it's game breaking in AB too. But I don't play AB.

About the 3rd person aspect, sure, sure, but remember that a tank is controlled by a whole team. Not just one person. One gunner, commander, driver. To share the tasks, communicate, build a situation awareness etc... In WT, it's one player to do everything. So, giving that overburdenned player the ability to look in 3rd person is fine by me.

But that silly target tracking, it have no meaning.

In fact, the ability to point the gun where the commander's binoculars are looking shouldn't work. It's a hunter killer capability, and it shouldn't work in old tanks.

Merkava 3D would have it and the M1A2, target tracking for both air and ground targets, but if they do that, they should decompress the BR's, otherwise with the combination of thermals, mobility and firing on the move, any tank lacking these would just get pancaked.
