Another page directs me to use the boot camp assistant, but it requires that I have a thumb drive (ready to be reformatted), and I must reboot into MacOS I'm not going to do that. In anticipation to some responses, we can argue about it if you want but it'll be a waste of energy.
Meanwhile, bootcamp needs you to reformat a thumb drive. Reformatting is a big deal. If something goes wrong, the user can lose ALL of their data. The instructions even go into troubleshooting for reformatting a drive, which is really digging in to helping a user complete a dangerous operation.

The BCA Action menu uses your Mac's Model Identifier to give you the correct drivers for the Apple-specific drivers that you need. IN the past, with downloadable drivers, many attempts have been made to install incompatible drivers on the incorrect Windows versions. For example, many MacPro users use BC5.x driver on W10, even though they are not certified. Apple Software Update on Windows provides any updates to the base BC drivers package obtained from the Action Menu.
The BC5.x drivers are still downloadable from Install Windows 7 on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support, which support W7/W8.1. BC5.x drivers do not support releases older than W7, which would require BC4 or BC3 drivers.
I understand your concern about Bootcamp drivers. If you download install the wrong versions of stuff, that will nowhere going to help you. If you don't know which driver you need to install, it's better to take help of a good driver updater tool such as FixBit
If you are unable to download Boot Camp drivers on your Mac computer for some reason or want to download Boot Camp on a Windows PC, you can use a third-party tool. Such tool automatically finds the suitable driver for your Mac or Windows OS. You need not take the burden of "is it the right driver or not?"
If apple is worried about users installing the wrong drivers, I'd respond from the world of Windows by saying "we call that Tuesday". Well actually installers are pretty good at detecting devices and doing things right nowadays without the help of using a model identifier, but I get it. Apple's going to limit the options for users to mess things up.
So I can't really find any documentation about what the latest version of the software is but I heard they've only incremented to 6.1. But I can't be sure because I'm stuck with whatever the BCA gave me. When I poke around on the BCA stick, the drivers are dated 2016.
It looks like I'm going to have to find some hack to get the new drivers to install, or risk uninstalling everything I currently have for boot camp so I can get the installer to install, and cross my fingers that I can run my system in-between boot camp installations.
If you own a Mac and you wanted to install Windows on it to run maybe some Windows software or games, Apple makes it possible by releasing Windows drivers which will allow Windows to run on your Mac computer.
Greetings. I am in the process of trying to get windows 7 onto my MacBPro, running 10.9.4. I have purchased Windows 7, downloaded it & have an .iso file.
I followed the instructions in bootcamp(gotten all proper windows updates) and utilized your bit of code to get bootcamp to create a bootable disc from the iso file and put it on a USB, which it does successfully. When I proceed to partition my drive through bootcamp, it stops me & says there is no bootable disc detected, pls install disc.
Through my research I have also installed rEFIt and using disk utility partitioned my drive and bypass bootcamp. When I start my mac, I get the rEFIt option to install windows from my USB, but in doing so it cannot find the BOOTMGR file.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

I have Installed WIndows 8.1 using your method..But when i install Bootcamp Drivers..It installs them for a while and then screen goes black (when it is installing graphic drivers) and nothing happens eventually i have to restart my mac and then after the windows logo again that black screen appears..!
Any Suggestions ?

try partitioning it using Disk Utility. then make a bootable USB with your preferred Windows Image. restart your Mac and as soon as you hear the startup chimes press and hold the ALT/OPT key until your partitions popup.
Hi. I already downloaded windows 8.1 (64-bit). And was in the process of making a bootable usb with the boot camp assistant but it prompts me with this message: Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use a ISO file for 64-bit Windows installation. I have a Macbook Air 10.9.2-early 2014. Please help. thanks

Got it to work, but one problem! On my PC when I went to this website and clicked create media installation, I chose ISO file and saved that ISO to my flashdrive, which I then plugged into my iMac so I could use that ISO in Bootcamp. Everything installed except the bootcamp drivers never came up during the installation so I cant connect to the internet while in windows 8.1. Was I not supposed to create an ISO file?

Basically no. You need to make sure you select the correct size when you create the Windows partition first up. There is some 3rd party tools that may do this. However this is not something that I will help people with.
If you want to resize the partition properly I suggest removing the boot camp partition and reinstalling the Windows all over again.

Make sure you do a back up of your Windows data before you try this.

And if I decide to remove the boot camp partition and reinstall it, will I be allowed to use the same product key for windows 8 as I did the first time?
Hey, I have a mid 2015 MacBook Pro and I have Windows 8.1 downloaded onto it through bootcamp assist. I tried downloading the driver BootCamp5.1.5640 and it says that this driver doesnt work for this computer model. I was able to go in and manually add some and some worked (like the volume, bluetooth, etc), but the wifi DOES NOT work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi i have an early 2015 macbook pro. i am trying to install windows 10 iso via boot camp. i launch the boot camp amp, and can not get past the copying windows files screen. when it fails i get the message your bootable usb drive could not be created an error occurred while copying the windows installation files.

I have an old Macbook Air (2013 or 14, I think) that I've installed Windows 10 on, wiping OS X and Bootcamp completely. What is the best way to get the Apple drivers for speakers, keyboard etc? Can I re-install Bootcamp without also installing OS X in this situation?

You still need open the OS X installer pkg file to get the the contents out, and to open a DMG file. If you are already in Windows, 7-zip will open it: -encounter.net/p860/opening-a-bootcamp-driver-download-on-windows-7-or-8-with-7-zip

P.S. Perhaps I'm a bit of a 'paranoid ready-for-the-end-of-the-world' type, but anyway you look at it (or me) - I wouldn't recommend trusting third party downloads of drivers, unless you have the inside scoop on what goes into making them (which you don't). Why?
This 'Apple DL1443: Boot Camp Software Update 3.3 for Windows' is definitely the required Update. I have a 2010 Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) installed and couldn't get the right Boot Camp upgrade using any of the Apple download software from within the bootcamp Application.After installing this Update/Upgrade suddenly all of the required drivers appeared in the Windows 'Device manager' and everything started working perfectly
While I was trying to connect an Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard through a bluetooth dongle on my PC, I've also downloaded and installed the Boot Camp for Windows (it was an .exe file, so I ran it, because I was curious). Now that I give up trying to connect the keyboard through the dongle, I also want to uninstall the Boot camp program on my Windows. I looked it up several times already, but all posts are about Windows on Bootcamp, not Bootcamp in Windows. Somehow there are no uninstall files nor has the 'Programs and features' the option to delete it, it only shows Change and Repair. How can I uninstall this?
