This is the way, I installed Nikonscan (version 4.0.3) on a Windows-10-64bit-system (the same procedure works on a Windows-7-64bit-system):
There is no need for a virtual machine.
- I installed the Nikonscan software (version 4.0.3)
- I replaced the content of the files "Nks1394.inf" and "NksUSB.inf" (the files are the drivers) as described here:
-for-64-Bit-Windows/Coolscan/Nikon-Scan/
- than I connected the Nikon scanner to my Windows-10-system and changed to the 'windows device manager' ; in the 'windows device manager' I updated the missing drivers from the just copied files "Nks1394.inf" and "NksUSB.inf" (via 'windows device manager' you can select the folder on your system from where to update the drivers).
- Before installing the modified drivers it is necessary to allow the installation of drivers without valid signature (duckduckgo.com and mama google know how to do that..)
- And then I tested if the antique Nikonscan software runs on my Windows-10-system. And YES Coolscan + Nikonscan + Windows-10 work very well together.
Running the Nikonscan software on a windows 10 64bit system is possible, because of the modified drivers that I found on colorperfect.com .
If you use the search term 'Photo.net Steel Chn Nikon coolscan driver' on duckduckgo.com or google
you will find some more information about the modified drivers for the Nikon 5000- and 9000-scanners.
Im wanting to know if there is a big difference between in the quality of scans im gonna get using the different available options for software and then converting using NLP. I currently use the original dimage scan software on a windows computer and scan as a positive and then transfer and convert on my mac. Figured vuescan and silverfast might be an easier option to forego the needing to transfer and dealing with old software. Will I see much of any difference using vuescan and or silverfast in combination with negative lab pro?
Ive been using dimage scan for a little bit now but I have had trouble with windows xp virtual machines. The scanner will get recognized the first time i load up the machine but after that any time i restart it will show the scanner is there, and the dimage scan software will launch, but it just hangs there indefinitely. have you had any issues with vms and dimage scan?
First on the router, you must assign a fixed IP to your multifunction printer. Once this is done, you need to open the firewall ports on your PC.Open the terminal and enter the following rule:"sudo ufw allow from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" without the quotes.Where in place of the X you have to put the real IP of your multifunction printer. Now vuescan will work. Then to delete the rule always from terminal type:"sudo ufw delete allow xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
While, to my knowledge, this is a generic issue with kodachrome, it would make sense to still scan with ir and save as alpha channel, as you might be able to use this data with a more elaborate or better tunable algorithm. AFAIR, the ir channel is just a regular colour channel in vuescan, so there is no special treatment if the correction algorithms are turned off.
While the concept and intentions of this app are great, it's extremely difficult to locate essential features such as a cmd for scanning multi-page or duplex documents as one .pdf file. Even more frustrating, to simply ask how to accomplish single-pdf file scans, Ed Hamrick demands a copy of the "vuescan.log" file which contains unrelated, non-pertinent OS and system details for a question unrelated to application features (or even scanner issues for that matter). I just don't feel comfortable releasing that information, nor was it necessary for our question (again, only a features question). There was no "problem."
Vuescan.exe, WScan.exe, VueScan Pro 8.6.04 Rus portable.exe, VueScan 8.6.58.exe or vuescan 2.exe are the common file names to indicate the VueScan installer. The program is sometimes referred to as "VueScan Installer".
