Maybank silently charged RM 10 to my accounts (Savings, i-Acc)

Check your accounts for RM10 debit on Dec 26.

Is it illegal to debit account without prior notice? No where have I
seen any Maybank notice of charging RM10 "half-yearly charge"!!!

CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNTS NOW!

RHB, PB, Alliance all offers similar online service that is as good as
Maybank and is FREE!

To hell with Maybank! (unless they explain the reason for the charge)

To date, I have not been informed, verbal or written, of any
"half-yearly charge". When I applied for i-Account sometime near July
2000 until today, I was not charged for anything. I cant exactly
remember whether I asked the Maybank staff whether i-Account got
charge, but as far as I know, i-account is not charged service charge.
ALSO, I notice that the savings account balance is less. Have to
reconfirm by checking my passbook, but almost certain they charged RM
10 to that account as well, as I remember having balance starting with
3x.xx and now is only 2x.xx. BUT Savings account I am not certain.

HOWEVER, I AM DAMN CERTAIN THAT MAYBANK CHARGED RM10 HALF YEARLY
SERVICE CHARGE TO MY I-ACCOUNT. WHAT THE HELL IS THE CHARGE FOR???
CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNTS NOW!!! TWO THUMBS DOWN TO MAYBANK!

Well taken and supported!

If you know their management style, you will be pissed off.

I think MBB is a real humuliate to the M'sian. Anyway, I've closed
all MBB a/c recently and transfered to 'FOREIGN BANK'.

The order from the top management is actually 'hijacked' by the
middle management - GM level. That's why most of the orders from board do
not reach to the lower management. With the lower rank officier of 'SIKAP
TIDAK APA', we as the despositor will suffered.

This is another typical case of cronies.

If you want to have a good memory of MBB days, should look into Ahmad Dun
era. Where he implemented DAWN POLICY - complete your work by end of day.
Where is he now...? Slaughtered by ???

Well, why walk with a 'giant elephant?'

Don't know anything about the i-Account, but I just updated my MBB passbook
today, and there's no RM10 charge for my Savings account.
And my current account hasn't been debited for the half-yearly service
charge either.

Maybak is F rated bank..they told me they need to take 3 weeks to
replace my 10-year old broken ATM card. I cancelled MBB insurance
policy after second month for their f service.

They will pay the price when more foreign banks are allowed to enter
market after 2003.

BTW, none of the local banks boleh pakai..

Maybank's Internet Banking (Maybank2u) is the best so far among internet
banking services available in Malaysia.
I have tried internet banking service of many banks, and Maybank2U remains
the best IMHO.

1. PBEbank is not online 24-hours, and login page is not secured. I was
prompted to save password at the login page!

2. RHBBank is not online 24-hours, and my first online bill payment attempt
encountered difficulties.

3. Multilink is not online 24-hours, and the login process is a hassle. More
secure, but a hassle.

What other bank offers Internet banking?

MBBBank YES
BCBBank
RHBBank YES
Arab-MalaysianBank YES
HongLeongBank
EONBank
AffinBank
SouthernBank YES
AllianceBank YES

Also, is my arrangement of the 10 anchor banks in terms of size correct? I
am quite sure of the top few, but not so sure of the bottom few.

How much is required to open account with IBS @ Arab-Malaysian and Southern?
I am thinking of testing out their IBS. Any charges? Last time I checked, AM
had some Raydius website or something, but not exactly IBS per se. Not sure
if there are new developments.

Regular current or i-Account?

Apparently the unannounced charge affects i-Accounts only.

By the way, Public Bank only pays 1.00% for one of their savings account.
1%???

Also, referring to the Maybank press release in one of the other posting:

"In conjunction with the launch of Maybank2u, the bank also announced the
introduction of i-Account, a unique online deposit account that pays
interest based on fixed deposit rates and allows a customer to view his/her
statement online. With a minimum initial deposit of RM500, the i-Account
offers interest calculated daily and paid monthly, optional cheque book
facilities, as well as free personal accident insurance converage of up to
RM50,000. Applications to open the account can be made via the internet."

The current FD rate is 4% PA, and 3.25% PA for 1 month, or somewhere near
that. However, the last time I checked, Maybank only paying 1.5% for
i-Account. It is true that for large amounts, the interest is the 1-month
rate. However, seems like the press release is not entirely accurate. It
should have stated that the rates are tiered.

I remember having Phileo's oneAccount previously, and the rate is the 1
month FD rate irrespective of balance. That's a long time ago and I maybe
mistaken.

Haven't got time to update my passbook. Too many transactions since the last
update to know for sure.

But I sent e-mail to Maybank and they replied that there is no such charge.
So probably no charge for Savings.

However, my i-Account definitely shows a RM 10 debit similar to this:

Another example of Maybank's stupidity:

I opened a current account at Seapark Branch. Was told to collect my
ATM card in a week's time.

Went back there after a week, was told they mistakenly sent my ATM
card to the Sek 14 Branch. I told them to leave it there, and I
personally saw them call the Sek 14 oficer to leave my ATM card there,
so that I can go to the Sek 14 branch the next day.

Next day - went to Sek 14 branch during lunch..was told they have sent
it back to the Seapark branch in the morning.

Premier 1 & Premier - both RM5.00 per month, although up until now the
Premier charges have never been announced to the customers - I just got 10
months worth refunded due to this "oversight" on the part of Maybank, after
hounding them for 10 months about it.

i-Account is lumped together with Premier 1 in the Maybank2u.com as well as
the ATMs. Could be why i-accountholders got charged RM10 1/2 yearly service
charge.

Waiting for official response from Maybank.

There is a "half-yearly charge" on current accounts. However, IINM,
the amount is RM20, and it's charged if the average balance is below
RM2,000. AFAIK all the banks agreed to this and charge it only on
current accounts.

I'm not aware of maybank charging it to savings and i-accounts.

I have had an i-account with maybank since when they first introduced
it. There's no RM10 charge when I checked the transaction history
earlier today. The only transactions are some interest payments, which
is being paid *into* the account. :-)

As a matter of fact maybank have never charged me anything on the
i-account other than the cheque book stamp duties.

If a RM10 half-yearly charge turns up in my i-account later, I'm going
to complain to the maybank2u helpline, plus the maybank branch manager
in my area. I suggest everybody does the same (but wait until the
charge actually turns up in your own account first).

PS: my balance is more than RM2000.

The i-account has different rates, depending on the balance in your
account. Obviously, if you're already rich, they'd pay you even more
money. :(

The rates are posted on maybank's website. Just click on "rates" on
the right hand side (under the section marked MAYBANK GROUP). Or you
can click here http://www.maybank2u.com/rates/rates_index.shtml

i-ACCOUNT ( w.e.f 16. 11. 2001)
CREDIT BALANCE NOMINAL RATE
(% p.a) EFFECTIVE RATE
(% p.a)

Up to RM 5,000 1.50 1.51
Up to RM 20,000 2.50 2.53
Above RM 20,000 3.00 3.04

etc ... snip (the rest are on FD, savings, etc.)

PS: Wasn't there more than 3 tiers a year or two back? Or is it just
my memory failing due to old age? :)

YG

Yes, yes. I know the rates are tiered :)

The point is that they forget to mention that it is tiered. To get the FD
rate Maybank claimed in the press release, the amount required is RM20K. In
addition, that is just the 1-month FD-rate!

By comparison eONE from Phileo previously paid
1-month FD rate on any balance exceeding RM2K, and it was stated clearly in
the ads.

2K and 20K is a lot of difference.

Your snipping removed their press release, which is the whole point.

Anyway, by current standards, 1.5% is quite high, since Public Bank only
pays 1%. This is because i-Account comes with checking facility. Other
savings account may pay similar or even slightly higer rates, but does not
include checking facility and Maybank's convenient Maybank2U IBS.

I have a varied balance for my i-Account -
sometimes RM 0, sometimes RM 3000, sometimes even more.
Not sure what is my average, but usually between RM 500 to RM 2000
It has always been the same ever since the beginning.

Never been charged for about 1 1/2 years until Dec 26.
Witra, you are an i-Account holder. Ever been informed of any charge?
Regardless of what is your balance, they should have informed you if indeed
there was any charge.
Because how can they know your balance will *always* be above RM 2K?

On the other hand, I can confirm there arent any charges for Savings.

i've been using mbb current a/c & credit card a/c.
and it's really good. the sevice is good and i've never
been charged for the rm5.

however, i agree with you that it's unfair to charge you rm5
permonth without informing you prior to you opening the a/c.
but in the i a/c case i believe that it's written in their website
regarding this charge. and it is a common practice, and i do believe
you apply this a/c through the website. therefore, based on this it
is quite fair for them to charge you the service charge.

i think it's better for u to change to other types of accounts
either the premier 1 current a/c or saving account. u can still use
maybank2u.com to check the balance and transactions that u have made.
and for the premier 1 u still get the mothly statement. whereas if u
want to have monthly statement for your i a/c they will charge u afurther
rm5 or rm10 for that statement.
