In 1987, at the height of the clash between the prime minister,
Dato' Seri Mahathir and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, one prominent
Malaysia apparently decided that the best place to be in, in the
circumstances, was in a holiday resort in the Mauritius. In those
days, private planes were not as common as it is now. The plane
used then was one belonging to that exemplary business of
international repute, Tan Sri Vincent Tan. The man left with a
several large bundles of what looked like documents. When elephants
fight, it is the grass that gets trampled. This man thought it wise
to be away, especially when raging elephants can also turn on their
mahouts. Dr Mahathir won in that instance. The man came back, and
went on to greater things.

In the aftermath of the sacking of the deputy prime minister,
Dato' Seri Anwar, eyewitnesses at Sultan Abdul Aziz Airport saw the
same man leave with nine large bags so heavy that it needed more
than two people to carry each. He left by private aircraft, his
own, but the destination is not known. This time, the battle is
more serious. Tengku Razaleigh played the rules according to
tradition; a loser will always complain, he told me after the 1987
election debacle; he lost, and he would not intend to challenge his
defeat; he would bide him time. Dato' Seri Anwar has hit the
ground running after his sacking from both his official position and
the party. The crowds he attracts are so huge that there is much
sympathy on the ground. So, the man's departure is not unexpected.
In any case, why is there the need for the dalang to soil his hands
when his puppets do the fighting.

Who is he, I hear you ask? Some mystery is always good for
the soul. So the name shall remain a mystery. I leave it to you
work out who he is, why he needs to carry these bundles of documents
(could it be other than documents?) abroad amidst one of the
biggest crisis UMNO has ever faced? Perhaps he has found an
excellent business opportunity in Ougadougou so lucrative that he
needs to be there urgently, and took the documents along since
Ougadougou is not as advanced in such matters as Malaysia already is
with the Multimedia Super Corridor and all that. Perhaps. Perhaps.
Perhaps.
