I've created a page for Japan YouTubers to leave their channel urls.
If you publish original Japan-related content on YouTube, please add
your link to this page so we can easily click through and subscribe:

work.

I added my URL too.

http://www.youtube.com/andrewshuttleworth

For reference, it looks like you don't need the /user part of the URL
most people have put in there.

I've added a note to the Japan YouTubers list asking that future
additions also be posted in the forums here:
http://forums.japansoc.org/showthread.php?t=97

The reason is simple: the group is private, but the forums are public.
If you want more people to subscribe to your YouTube channels, then it
makes sense to list them in a place that is accessible to search
engine traffic and curious visitors.

Personally, I'd rather drop this page from the Google Group
altogether, but if people continue to use then I guess it should stay.

I personally agree that public pages are better.

I think the reason people use the Google Group is because a mailing list is more PUSH than a forum creating a small viral effect. Maybe I should look at my notification settings in the JapanSoc forums, but this has traditional been a problem with forums in the past.

I agree. In the forums, you get instant notification of new posts only
on threads you've posted on, so everyone else is oblivious. There is
an RSS feed, but it only shows new threads, not posts:
