Would others like to join me in compiling card sets from Heisig's "Remembering The Kanji" book?

Hello,
On the recommendation of an extremely knowledgable and skilful kanji-
fluent friend, I just bought "Remembering The Kanji" by James Heisig.
The book is divided up into lessons, and Japanese My Way is MADE for
this book.
I'm about to go through and add every single kanji in the book into
flash decks...
But perhaps if a few of us did it, it would be like scratching each
others' backs, and would take no time. We could then share each others
files, perhaps one deck for each lesson. We could work the details out
if a few are interested.
Please reply if you have the book and would be interested in helping
out and benefitting from the idea.
Cheers

Hi,

I would be interested in sharing this workload. However, it's not
possible to merge decks together, and it would be better to have
everything in one deck. I would suggest maybe putting the deck into
some kind of source control (Google Docs?) so you can 'check out'
while you're working on it, and then 'check back in' again after.
This will ensure someone else is not adding to the deck while you are.

Ray,
that sounds great. I thought the same: one deck, with different sections, ... and I was wondering if someone had an idea about how to accomplish that. Who better than the developer?!
I have no idea about how to use google docs, though. I figured out how to export the file through iTunes, so I could put my decks on iPod and iPad touch, ... can google docs read that file or something?

Google Docs is now Google Drive. At the end of the day it's just a
file. However the biggest problem is that two people cannot work on
it at the same time, this is why you need version control, so the file
can be 'locked' while someone is working on it.

Unfortunately looks like Google Drive doesn't support that either.
Might be easier just to do it by email. You add a few chapters, email
it to me, I'll add a few more, email it back etc. until it's done.

Yeah, that sounds fine, emailing the file back and forth.
I've already done chapter 2, I"ll make it a goal to do the next 5 or so this weekend (which for me is Sun-Tue), then email you the result.
I didn't bother to do unit 1, because it's just numbers and a few very easy and basic ones. If we're going to do the book, though, it probably makes sense to include unit 1 as well. What do you think?
And so far (in unit 2) I've only come across one mismatch - what Heisig calls 'nightbreak' only comes up as 'daybreak', understandably. There are probably a few more of those throughout.
Anyway, I'll be in touch next week.

Guys,

Why not set up a google document for each chapter and then assign chapters to different people? The list of assignments could be stored in a single file that everyone can check and use to keep others updated on their progress.

Eg.

<assignments document:>
Chapter 1 - USER 1 - incomplete
Chapter 2 - USER 2 - in progress
Chapter 3 - unassigned
<end of assignments document>

<chapter 1 document:>
Index no. - Kanji - image - story etc
Index no. - Kanji - image - story etc
Index no. - Kanji - image - story etc
Index no. - Kanji - image - story etc
...
<end of chapter 1 document>

Let me know what you guys think!

Yes, we should probably include all chapters, even if they are just
numbers.

We can't setup a google document for each chapter, because the file is
in a proprietary format and the data cannot easily be merged together
afterwards. I think the easiest way is just to hand the file off
(like a baton in a relay) to the next person.

By all means send me where you got up to at the end of the weekend.
Maybe we can each do 5 chapters at a time until we're done.

Hi! Was the flash deck for Heisig's "Remembering the Kanji" ever completed?  I just got the book and was thinking how perfect it would be to have a corresponding deck.  If it's done, where can I get it?  If it's not done, I'd be happy to help create it.

Grrr.  Attach file is broken here.  Please send me an email at rae...@rakudasoft.com and I'll email you the flash deck.
