Point to all the orange liquid that Shinji and Asuka are surrounded by in that
last scene, and ask him what it is. Explain that it's the "sea of LCL" that Rei
referred to when they were screwing. The rest of humanity is no more dead than
Shinji was in the screwing scene. Based on the original ep. 26, even Misato's
soul is floating around in there, and her body got decidedly blown up before
Third Impact proper.

I don't think there's any evidence for that, but I like it quite a bit, since it
lends itself to *much* better post-epilogue fics. I've always been in favor of
Shinji x Kaworu over any other pairing.

The day any one person has all the answers, they're dead.

Any attempt at theft of this sig is strictly prohibited, and will be dealt with
in the most severe manner possible, most probably involving chicken feathers,
cod liver oil, and a very, very depraved walrus.
BTW, this sig is in compliance with the 1998 Don't Toucha My Toot-toot Pact.
nice try ^^''
Apparently this is a translation from a card in one of the games from the
'Shinji and friends' series.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Part II (movies) Drama card D-88
Title: "Kimochi warui"
Small print:
"Shinji renounced the world where all hearts had melted into one and
accepted each other unconditionally. His desire... to live with 'others' --
other hearts that would sometimes reject him, even deny him. That is why the
first thing he did after coming to his senses was to place his hands around
Asuka's neck. To feel the existence of an 'other'. To confirm (make sure of)
rejection and denial."
--------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting but like all things should be taken with a pinch of salt.

You're definitely on the the right track, tho I should point out that
Misato (and Ritsuko, for that matter) is obviously included in Third
Impact in both the TV and movie endings. ( Which only stands to
reason, considering that both the TV and movie endings are essentially
the same.) The fact that Misato got blown to bits is entirely
irrelevant to the fate of her soul. It is a obvious correlary to the
whole soul/ AT Field premise, that people's souls linger around after
they die, otherwise no soul > no AT Field > people would liquify as
soon as they die. During TI, we see Rei come to gather the souls of
both the living (Maya, Fuyutsuki, and the others), and the recently
deceased (Ritsuko, Misato, and all the others killed in the battle in
ep25'. Once TI is underway, we see and hear Misato:
(Shinji, lying on his back)
Misato (over Shinji):
If it's that painful, you can stop.
Rei (over Shinji):
If you really don't like it, you can run away.
-
a moment which, btw, correlates to a point in TV ep26:
-
Misato:
You can run away if it's painful.
Rei:
You can run away from something you truly hate.
So, at the end Misato, and everyone else is out there in the LCL. They
are all 'elegible' and capable of coming back to physical existence,
just as Asuka does. For, in the words of Rei and Yui:
Rei:
Anyone can return to human form as long as they can imagine themselves
in their own heart.
and:
Yui (voice):
Don't worry.
All living things have the ability to return to their original form...
and the heart to go on living.
I have no idea what that sais.
Sauka- Dark Lilum
After watching the commentary I checked that scene and her eyes look blue,
with a tinge of red, possibly from the sky in that scene.
Well to me anyway.

this posts twice.]
So you think that Misato, Ritsuko, and others whose bodies died immediately
pre-Third Impact can come back too? How about those who died a long time
before? Where do people's spirits go after the body is destroyed and the AT
field leaves? Heaven? The Chamber of Guff? Can *they* come back?
You know, just when you think you have a handle on what's going on in EoE,
someone like you comes along and shakes my confidence.... O.O

<snip>
>Asuka seemed to be just as 'dead' as Misato, and so, the fact that she
>comes back certainly does seem to me to settle, in the affirmative,
>the question of whether people who 'died' before TI can come back...
Whether Asuka actually died or not in EoE is a long running debate
here. (I wish Disaster were still around, we could set him off
and see how long it took him to stop yelling. ^_^). Anyway,
although the MPEs *did* very thoroughly trash EVA-02, the entry
plug is only a small part of an EVA and it is possible all their
spears and tearing hands missed her... And it's not as if the
MPEs were programmed to specifically kill any Children they
ran across... And we don't see Rei coming for her...
It's one of those unanswerable questions.
FW
I think it's more likely she died from the Eva actually getting speared then
the spears actually running through the entry plug. Her nerve connections
were still active and she was so synched that her arm actually split when
the Eva's did. I'm thinking that the Eva getting a bunch of spears through
the brain would mean the same for Asuka. Which, of course, would result in
death.
It's always been my belief that if an Eva's head was severed or the like
while a pilot's nerve conections were active, they'd die. This is why Misato
was so desperate for Asuka's connections to be severed when Zeruel was right
about to cut of Unit-02's head. Kind've similar to dying in a dream or in
the Matrix, even. It's not your physical body that's dying, but your mind,
in a way.
--Taryn
She recieves the spear to the head BEFORE she is seem again inside the
entryplug (with a disturbing about of blood coming from her eye(which is
back to normal in the beach scene, interesting)).
The spears she recieves while reaching into the sky are to the body.
