This might be a dumb question to ask, but will region codes affect me if I'm
playing DVD's on a computer?

The answerer is a strong maybe.

Just like a standalone player it depends on your "player".
Some will ignore region codes others will abide by them.

As for region encoding, if anyone else is interested, for DVD-ROM drives if
they were built before Jan 2001 they are (usually) regionless and you can
play
any region DVD in them. Drives after Jan 2001 have to have a locked region
encoding which means hopefully a firmware update - best to check the
manufactarer's
website before you buy to see if the region is changable.
If the hardware is OK then all you need next is a crack for your software
player,
which are fairly easy to find on the net.
I use DVD Genie at www.inmatrix.com which also includes
a program to test your drive for region compatibility.

Of course, some film companies like Warner have another layer of encoding,
but I don't think any anime companies have this.

Basically, it means your software will run any region disc.

If you need to check the actual hardware, the program for drive region info
is at http://www.visualdomain.net/download.htm .
