Hey -- I'm a college stuent from Asheville, NC who's recently discovered
Eva. I loved the series and the movies, and I've been checking out some of
the fanfic online. I like a lot of it (excepting the ridiculously powerful
self-insertions) but a few things have kind of spooked me.

For one thing... well, I came across a fic called Fane of the Firebird (at
http://www.eyrie.org/ftp/anime/Evangelion/Fane-of-the-Firebird/) that was
billed as a crossover between Eva and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Since I'm
also a fan of Utena, I thought I'd check it out. It's very well-written,
but it's incredibly bleak and horrible -- moreso than the series, even. I
made it to chapter 11 (out of 33!) before I decided it was too much for me.
I mean, the series was pretty dark, but THIS...

My question is, is this kind of fic the standard for Eva fanfiction? Is it
darker than average, or does everyone write this kind of thing?

There you go again with those tired accusations. I wasn't
even in the same city as your socks when they were bleached,
stabbed, burned and mixed into the dorm cafeteria menu.

First, I was in Charlotte for about four months last year on business, NC is
a nice place (at least what I saw of it)

Second, no. Take a look at www.fanfiction.net, they have a huge collection
of fanfics, including Eva, and they run the gauntlet of humor, drama, angst,
adult (hentai, yaoi, etc.) and crossovers. You won't regret it.
