Is the figure any good? How does it compare to Kaiyodo's older range of Eva
figures, and Bandai's Chogokin series?

Thanks.

I bought it.
Well, in the movie version film colors are brighter and joint point (action
point? How they are called in english?) are different. They are more visible
(half leg, shoulders, no more plaques jointed to the sholders to hide arm
joint point) but grant more positioning capability to the figure. Weapons
are good but not many as the old Kaiyodo (but you have to think that in old
Kaiyodo boxes there were only one big weapon, now 3): 2-handed axe, bazooka,
military gun and an hand-depended restyled prog knife. Now hand have a
little hole in which you have to insert a little projection of the weapon
(but is always compatible with old figures). However, comparing weapons, for
just a bit wins the old version 02-eva
Plastic now is different, just stiffer. Finally, dorsal area behind the head
is a unique piece: it confers solidity but a sort a "hunchbacking" (but not
bad in the end).
When I opened the box and I saw it for the first time I felt a bit
disappointed, but positioned it on my bracket I cannot admit that is very
cool. Maybe more then the original one.
I think is not indispensable if you already got the first edition one, and
if you didn't I counsel you to by this.
However, if you'll buy the movie version one, you will be surely satisfied.
About Bandai's Chogokin series, I dont' have one, but seeing it in shop I
noticed that is little bit smaller then kaiyodo ones and the joint point
between soulder and arm is not occulted. I don't know the positioning
capapility but details are very good and metal instead of plastic make
chogokin one cooler. But the difference of prices (obvioulsly Chogokin one
more expensive) tell you what kind of difference is.
Personally, I appreciate more the Kaiyodo's ones, because of the plasticity
(metal is always metal) and of the colors (Eva in the series have not
metallic color).
That's it.
