looking for a Shinji/Rei pairing fic. Asuka is all well and good, but why
does it seem Asuka's always the one who finds love and acceptance?!?
I'm looking for serious fics really though. I think Disaster recommended
"Rei II's Excellent Adventure", but that didn't sound too promising. :(

Because it seems like from a canon point of view, Shinji and Asuka
become a couple. Anno has alays stated that Shinji was representative
of him while he was in the depression and he has also stated that
Asuka is his favorite character. Plus...

Also, Asuka is the one that's always in search of acceptance. Rei
does not require acceptance, she is merely content to be "existing"
(at least until the 16th Angel). Since Asuka and Shinji are both in
search of affirmation from others, it is not a stretch to imagine that
they would get it from each other.

The One I Love has a very good Rei/Shinji relationship, even if Shinji
did pick Asuka in the end. In fact, it might be the best S/R fan
fiction that I have read even if Rei was OOC. =(
IIRC, Variations on a Theme was R/S as well, but I don't remember
since I haven't read the story in quite a while.
Ummm...that's mostly it. Momento Mori has paired R/S up, but it's
mostly about the A/S relationship. It also makes you want to cry in
the corner for an hour after you go read it...and it takes 3 minutes
to read...

I just want to clarify that Anno was still in his so called depression
through the creation of NGE. Bottom line though is that he is crazy and
the depression has a good chance of just being a delusion.

i think another reason is that when you've seen eva,
it's hard to understand rei, so you can make a lot of mistakes
and moreover when you know she's a clone.
plus, she's a part of yui, so for me it's insane to have arelationship
between her and shinji...
if i ever had to write a fanfic with rei, i'll make rei free of yui's
mind...
i must admit i never read any fanfic,
is there any fanfic with love between hikari and toji?
i bet you can write some funny and interesting things on those two...

Without ranting about Rei's better points, and Asuka's lesser one's, I'd say
she just needs someone to open up more to. Refer to "The One I Love Is..."
Though out of character, the author did explore that idea somewhat.

"Nice" and "Means more" are two different things. Think of
it this way. Rei was raised in a sterile environment. The
closest thing she has to a family is Gendo (barf). She
doesn't really know what she's missing.
Asuka knows, though. She used to have a family, a mother
and father whose love she wanted to win. Her father
withdrew from her, and her mother... did the same in an
even more horrible way. SHE knows what she's missing.
She may have built her defenses up to the point that she
refuses to believe she's hurting ("I don;t need ANYBODY"),
but she is.
If she gets back what she's lost it wll mean more to her
because it will ease her pain as well as makes her
happy.

That's true. However, she does not need it more than someone who has
felt compassion and the love of others.
For example, a person who is born blind will never see the beauty of
our world. It's a real shame. However, a person who becomes blind
through an artificial mean (injury, disease, etc.) will miss his sight
more than the person who was born without it because he has seen the
glory that our sight bestows upon us. He knows what he is missing and
thus, he will feel that much more pain for losing it.
Meanwhile, the blind man has never seen the world, so while it's still
tragic, he really isn't missing anything because he never had it in
the first place.
"The saddest thing in the world, is loving someone who used to love
you."
In a nutshell, this quote describes what I'm trying to say. It's
causes far more sorrow to have known love and to have lost it, than to
have never known it at all because simply put, you have more to lose.

Rei doesn't know what she is missing out on it's okay to let her miss out
on it? If you were in pain and I knew it was because your leg was infected
and would eventually kill you but you didn't know about it because the
nerves from your leg to your head and been killed by the infection that it
would be morally okay for me to not tell you about it?

Have you ever considered the phrase, "better to have loved and lost then
never to have loved at all!" Would you restore sight to the man who was
blinded in life before the one who was born without sight? Would you
really do that and deny a human the chance of ever seeing at all?

Or, "you can not lose something you don't have." Just to make your idea
simpler, easier on the conscious and so forth. It's crap, total and utter
crap. It's like trying to mathematically map the human heart(metaphorical
one). You can't do it. Bottom line is, better to have a little, then none
at all.

I think that Ayanami does kind of need it. If you think about it, when
others show to genuine kindness, it truly touches her heart. Think of her
response to the concern both Ikari's showed when her Eva went nuts.
Similarly, think of the few interactions between her and Shinji... Shinji
clearing her room, his attempts to casual conversation in the lift... her
talking to Toji about Shinji before his activation. Okay, maybe not Shinji
falling on her in the nude, but I'm sure you get my drift. :)
Ayanami seems to conceal her emotions, and many seem to forget that when it
comes to think about this.

I think that's taking it a little far. Rei does somewhat understand and
feel the need for such a connection. Even if she understands less of it in
a conventional sense.
We could argue that Asuka doesn't have a mature connection to guys either.
imho, she doesn't quite understand relationships either. However, she's not
the one who gets the short end of the stick most of the time now, is she?

I need no time, *hides watch* Do you think that life is a journey that we
can take without pain?Yes the pain is greater when you have had the
experience of joy. But it's worth having just as much. If I could choose
then with what I know today I would say give me my mother for 15 years and
then take her away. For I would rather have known her and shared my
childish love with her then to have the emptiness that would come with no
mother.
First, both of "you" would be happy. But the one who had never had a
mother would be happier of course. For here was the one thing that you had
been denied your entire life, the one thing you thought you would never
have.

Relax Z, this is not a hard argument to shoot down. Just as Rei is aware
of what she is missing so to does a child know that other children have
mothers.

I'm not advocating that Rei does not need love. However, she seems to

from others. It's not to say that she doesn't need it, but it's
impact of her is far less than it is with Asuka. It's one of the main
reasons why there's more A/S than there are R/S is because of that
reason.
I think that's a far more logical reason to assume why there's more
A/S than R/S as opposed to:
"A/S fans make better writers"
"R/S writers have a higher chance of being abducted by aliens than A/S
writers"
"More people like Asuka than Rei" is not a very (In my opinion, that's
blatantly false; most people I know like Rei more than Asuka. They
don't understand how I can like "that bitch" =D)

Did you JUST get here or something? The majority of People in the JAE like
Asuka. Whilst I consider that to be a mistake, it's true.
Next, the fact that more people like Asuka over Rei is the overriding
factor towards the unfortunate circumstance leading to more A/S fics then
R/S.
Rei does NOT lead a normal life, this should be a blatantly painful fact
to you and should invoke the sympathy required to realize that she needs
the love more because of this very fact. Not the complete opposite
attitude stating that because she's apparently emotionally dead, we don't
need to help her.
I sincerely hope that you are not, and never do become a doctor of any
kind or type either in practice or hobby, field or research.

The discernible impact perhaps. That's one of the reasons I'd like such a
fic, to flesh out her character, to open her up a bit.

I think he meant "normal" to Rei. To us, clearly no, but to her perhaps.
But I doubt she finds that much joy in life, which is the reason I go nuts
everytime yet another fic I trawl pairs Shinji with Asuka.

Well, three are 18 year olds I know who still have problems. :\ And
there's at least one 20 year old who made that mistake with someone and is
still unbalanced by it. :((

That's just the thing though Z. Normal to Rei is NOT normal. Normal of
course means the healthy average of the human population. Yes there is
such a thing, deviations from this norm' are a good thing of course but
extreme deviations are not. There's a safe zone if you will. Rei falls
close the edge of this I think. She lacks the tools necessary to express
her feelings and thus does not know how to deal with them. "Normal" to Rei
is not Normal, comes back to, Is it okay to kill you if you don't know
that you are alive?

Bah! But then I'd know all the plotlines!

at that too. :)

times - the higher quality ones also explore the personalities
of the characters and what personal relations might work.

think that, in terms of misery, Asuka is suffering more
than she is. And would benefit more from a change.

Of course not all hentai doujinshi is ALL hentai. There's
one frontpiece to an H-doujin I remember well, mainly because
it was so non-hentai and so darn CUTE! The Children as they
would have been at three years, chibi-Rei unbelievely kawaii
in a long flannel nightground and with ribbons in her hair,
holding a super-deformed Eva-00 doll. And watching poker-
faced as chibi-Asuka - angry, of course - was fighting with

Well, the main theme was anime groups in which the main male

Yeah I'll bet it does. Was talking to Mike in Sydney once looking for wall
scrolls myself. Mike runs an international route between Australia, the
UK, the US and Japan. He more or less ripped my head off about the
scrolls. Frankly I'm more willing to trust in someone who knows what they
are talking about rather then a few words at the bottom of something
that's most likely a fraud.

That's what Mike said Olivier! Miek is the guy who runs the Cartoon

to me that Rei and Shinji have any kind of attraction on either side,
but they have a familial bond that they don't understand, or at least
that Shinji doesn't understand. Even in the "oops, I fell on top of
you" scene Shinji seems more puzzled than anything. I don't actually
think Rei is capable of being attracted to others as it wouldn't be true
to her Lilith-ness (and in that sense she is EVERYONE's mother).
Plus from a writing point of view it would seem to make sense that Anno
would just try and steer clear of that whole situation. Asuka is
obviously Shinji's kindred spirit. And for better or worse, Rei is too
much Yui for that whole situation to not elicit (more) death threats.
