Was the TV series supposed to end like it did? I mean, it was just a big
ol' whirlpool of Shinji's Freudian analysis. Weird. But then the movies
(Rebirth & Death, and EoE) seem to be more "ending minded" and seem to
resolve all of the themes and issues that the series focused on. I'm new
to the whole Evangelion phenomenon (if it can be called that), so I
don't know if the TV series end was meant to be a preface to the Finale
Movies, or if the TV series was abruptly cancelled by the network (which
is prone to happen to even the best of TV series---e.g. Farscape) and
that maybe the movies were a way to get the proper ending.

I heard that they were running out of time and money on the TV series, so
direct control was given to Anno, who made this mish mash. It was meant to
be an ending, but it left a whole lot of things unexplained, such as the
instrumentality project, and the adam/lilith connections, and Rei of course.
Anno felt obligated to his actors and higher ups (and to a certain extent
the fans) to resolve these issues, and so, EoE was made, which are different
versions of episodes 25 and 26. You can't really accept both endings
together, you have to make up your mind as to which one is official. I like
to think that EoE was the real one, as it explained a lot, and had a decent
ending (after you think about it for a few weeks). So yeh, make up your own
mind.

The movie ending wasn't made because people explained, in fact
the creators have been quoted as saying explicitly that "it wasn't
bitterness towards the fans". The movie ending was what they
had originally planned, however because of budget difficulties, and
because the Japanese PTA were breathing down their necks
censoring everything, they couldn't make it. Anno did the series
ending, he was happy with it, but when he got the chance to go
back and make when he had originally intended he jumped at
the chance.

?

TV endings 25 and 26 AND EoE 25' and 26' occur at the same time. Think of
them all as showing you the same things from different perspectives.

The series was mainly character driven, so I suppose I can understand
the original ending within that context, seeing as if we accept that the
Angels are no more and that the Lance of Longinus is lost and that Seele
wasn't capable of creating their monstrosities in such a short (??)
amount of time...then the series ending resolves the main character's
issues and problems, which seemed to underline the entire storylilne.

However, on the whole, I thought that the movie endings were absolutely
brilliant. They not only resolved the character's issues and problems,
but also resolved the whole Adam/Lilith-Human Instrumentality Project
arc quite nicely, as well.

I suppose we should just accept the ending(s) that we want. I choose the
movie endings, myself. :)

Nope. They're not different, just told from different perspectives;

This topic has been discussed to death already. Go to google and pull up the

Philosophers / thinkers have a bad habit of coming up with tons of questions
and not providing nearly enough answers, just leads to track down. Age old
example would be, "what is the meaning of life?"

The meaning to life is to live. Meaning is given form when you declare for
yourself, what it is to live!
