Bought the Perfect Collection DVD set on a whim, watched it all...
will buy The End of Eva in september, but let me get a few things
straight first

1. Asuka has lost her mind b/c of her mom or something, and she's
pretty much done for.

2. Rei isn't really there, but rather a shell for something else.

3. Shinji isn't gonna get any more confident in the movie, is he?

4. Someone hit the crack pipe many, many, MANY times before
concieving episodes 25 and 26. I'm still not sure what the hell that
was, or what it was meant to convey.

5. Fan service can't show any detail. I know that's more of a common
anime question than in Eva, but damn me for having hormones.

that's about it... if i think of anything else i need to be set
straight on, I'll post it.

well, i believe IIRC,

1. Asuka is messed up cuz her mom killed herself and such...(and wanted to
kill her, too)--and is kept away from me
2. Rei IS there, and is a genetically engineered human/angel hybrid who
exists for MY viewing pleasure (and Zeruel's ^_^)
3. he's a puss. ep 26 shows him gain more confidence
4. yes, someone did hit the crack pipe, but i believe that was the
_original_ idea for instrumentality (b4 fans bitched about eps 25-6)...it
was for Shinji to get more confident and such...in the traincar of his mind
and blahblah (i've missed a few eps in the middle)
5. we all have hormones...except for Misato (hahahaha) -_^

I just don't find her attractive. Too pale. give the girl a tan and
then we'll talk, until then i'll take Asuka or Misato (or both!)

Watch them over and over and over again! If you can still talk come back!
:P

You should try watching NGE around fives times straight. Things get
slightly clearer each time. Not sure that's all good though!

hell no. If episodes 1-24 were the equivalent of misato and asuka
inviting me into a threesome, than episode 25 were them revealing
themselves to be particularly nasty angels, and episode 26 would be
the aforementioned angels tearing my eyes out and fucking the sockets.
I'll watch 1-24 over and over again, but NEVER AGAIN will i suffer
through that horrible, horrible finale.

Asuka will be done for when she's dead and buried. And maybe

Nothing, and it seems especially in Japan, Japanese lit. is full of
platitudes to pale white skin, (note the pure white makeup of the geisha).
Also the fact that it seems the dark skinned Japanese are a little, for
lack of a better term, "looked down on". Now that said, I personally find
the darker Japanese girls quite attractive.

Starts thinking of other scenarios about what would happen
if Rei were a vampire.

Having all those crucifixes around would really suck, for one thing.

On the other hand, she wouldn't be spending all that time in
the sick bay trying to heal.

Feeding might not be all that easy, either (although Gendo probably
would provide anything she needed). Although if the others walked
in on her, the results might be... interesting. (pictures Shinji
trying to come up with something to say that wouldn't hurt Rei's
feelings; Misato misinterpreting the crimson leaking down Rei's
chin and saying "All right! Bloody Marys!"; Asuka unleashing
a Germanic curse that singes paint and heading off to go find
some garlic.

Also imagines EVA-00 with Rei at the controls growing fangs in
the midst of combat and going for some poor unsuspecting
Angel's lifeblood...)

I agree, I have next to zero pigment in my skin and still no desire to
ruin my skin. Tanning causes wrinkles anyway. A further note, pigmentation
is now thought to be an evolutionary development in regard to the amount
of UV in the environment. Closer to the equator you get the more UV you
have thus generally the more pigment in your skin. The pigment of course
keeps the UV out as one of the heat regulating methods your body uses. As
you get further from the equator your body needs more and more of the UV
to help retain the heat so it discards the pigment. As far as I know this
adaptation is rather significant, even to the point of life and death.

Thank god for air-conditioners and Diet Coke! O_o;

All this and more can be found in the MONSTER finale, a movie event
COMING TO DVD SOON, the appropriately titled "End of Evangelion". If
you can, avoid this thread until you've seen the movie... someone's
bound to drop a spoiler in here somewhere. One question I'll throw out
there is: what do people think of 25/26 as compared to 25'/26'? Are
they different viewpoints of the same ending, or different endings
altogether? I personally lean towards the former.

While I don't consider 25/26 to be any kind of a satisfying ending, it
is what truly sucked me into Eva. Eva has real depth, and I think 25/26
exemplarizes exactly what keeps me coming back. For a long time I had
been wondering if stories like Eva could exist; not only is it a real
comment on the human condition, but it also dresses it up and makes it
palatable with some great action and sympathetic characters. (And I
love Rei, of course.) But it's not one of those stories where all the
ends are tied up in a neat little package in the end, and I find that
makes it more realistic, because life doesn't spoon-feed you. It is
exasperating, confusing, and mind-bending... and I wouldn't have it any
other way.

One other thing; are you saying I'll have to wait until September to buy
the DVD of EoE? I've seen it a few times, but only on a couple of
fansubbed versions which I suspect to be a bit dubious in accuracy.
I've already resolved to myself that I'm going to buy Death & Rebirth
as soon as it hits the shelves, and I might even drop the $350 on the
Perfect Collection. But I don't think I can last until September to
find out exactly what happened in EoE.

$350?! Is the markup really that much in Canada? As with most things,
shop around... if you're looking for R1, you could import for $100-130
USD. Obviously there are still shipping costs to contend with...
A quick search (some of these probably ship international):
http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=ADV030826 ($99)
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=40166519&loc=322 ($108)
http://digitaleyes.net/Details.cfm?info=DVDEVBX1 ($109)
http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_listing.asp?productid=23584&format=DVD
($127)

Save that much and you could throw in the metal artbox... it's still
comparatively cheap! Or just keep the remaining ~$230...;-)

Awesome, thanks! I think $99 American would translate to about $150
Canadian, and then shipping and taxes would add a fair chunk... a friend
of mine got a pre-order deal online on the Perfect Collection and it
still came out to about $350 Canadian. Retail for anime DVDs in general
in Canada hover around $40, at least at Future Shop.

Still hesitant to drop all that money, but I'll be first in line for
both D&R and EoE. A story that doesn't spoon-feed you... priceless :)
