In Evangelion symbolism is everywhere. I was looking at the Manga collection
(Nr. 7) and noticed something about Gendo's office.

On the ceiling we se the Tree of Life as in the begining of each episode,
but there is also another image on the floor. That image is actually the
result form a collision of particles in a particle accelerator. These type
of images were studied to search for new particles, a job now done in part
by computers, but these images still do remain.

One interesting anecdote... The bottom part of the Tree Of Life in Gendo's
office is at it's entrance, while the top is located right over his desk (i
am not throughly sure of this, but the desk may be located between the top
two middle sephirot's, instead of being under the top central sephirot)

Nerv, the prefect combination between religion and science, with those who
enter regarded as normal humans, while the person who sits at the desk being
regarded as the devil himself (but that depends on the position of the desk)
:)
