Dear JUCA members,
We have had difficulty appealing to our members about the importance and possibility for our JUCA to make academic and professional contribution to the schoalrship of communication, especially the issues surrounding Japan-U.S. relationships as well as cross-cultural perspectives on various social and communication problems in the respective countries.
Though I announced at last year's business meeting that we will start preparing to "move" from NCA to ICA as an attempt to revive the academic interest of our members, after some extensive discussion with people who have been members of JUCA for a long time, I have come to conclusion that we should give our JUCA another push and that we can move to ICA anytime, and even have JUCA (or under a different name) in both NCA and ICA. At any rate it is a little too premature to give up our presence in NCA, and pack up and leave. Setting aside our potential transfer from the NCA to the ICA for the time being means our increasing effort to maintain our presence in the NCA.
More specifically we need to decide on our leaders for the immediate future including the year 2025. To make a significant change of the JUCA's culture, I would like to propose disbanding the present JUCA executive committee at the upcoming business meeting to make a fresh start. All the EC positions will be vacant for a moment and we'll only accept self-nominations this time because of past failures with nominations by others.
We believe that the president, first vice president, second vice president, and secretary should be able to come to NCA constantly, hopefully every year, and help with JUCA sessions and social. We believe that if everyone plays a small part, we should be able to reboot JUCA 2.0.
Please let me (miya...@seinan-gu.ac.jp) or Koji Fuse (Koji...@unt.edu) know if you're willing to nominate yourself to help JUCA grow again. All of the following posts are open:
