to January 2011 Clean Eating Challenge
I wouldn't say that I handled this month like a "whole 30"...more like
settling in. I did a strict whole 30 back in october but the holidays
really managed to ruin some of the progress I'd made. This month was
more about getting back to a sustainable diet. I've been gluten-free
for about a year and a half and about 99 percent dairy free for over
half a year. I really can't imagine ever reintroducing either of
these things to my diet. I feel awful pretty much immediately upon
eating either. What's been a subtler realization over the past few
months is how much other grains affect me. I used to consider corn
and rice like "mini cheats" when really, they only seem "mini" because
they don't taste that good...in the damage they cause they're anything
but. This month I stayed grain and dairy free but had a little bit of
dark chocolate and a couple glasses of wine a week, which is a really
sustainable way for me to eat. Most importantly, I feel great. My
energy is way up (as long as I don't eat ANY fruit for breakfast, and
little to none the rest of the day), and my performance is up...both
my back squat and dead lift numbers are back to where they were pre-
injury, which is pretty cool. It's been really amazing/impressive to
see such huge changes in people over the past month or so.
