Hi!

GSoC 2017 has already finished and there are a couple of things to consider in terms of Jangouts. There wasn't enough time to fully finish the redesigned version and, thus, I am adding a list of things to do or think about. Some of the issues are minor and just slightly improve the design, some of the issues are a matter of discussion to agree on a certain decision and some of the issues are more important and require implementation. Also, here is the link to the redesign branch: https://github.com/jangouts/jangouts/tree/redesign.
  • Chat
    • Add a "remove" glyphicon to the chat header when open
    • Fix the blinking problem (chat should not be visible before the page is fully rendered, as it causes the chat to jump all over the screen)
    • Fix the white line that occasionally appears at the bottom of the chat
    • Make the chat movable (only horizontally)
  • Username
    • Add a limit to the name (at the moment the name can be infinitely long)
    • Leave the current username when editing (e.g. when the user wants to fix a typo in their name, they have to type their whole name again instead of just replacing a character)
  • Thumbnails
    • Make my own thumbnail constant (always the first thumbnail, so the order is not changed)
    • Make the pop-up menu close only when the caret is clicked
    • Remove the "pin" option when clicked on thumbnail and replace it with showing all options instead (as if clicked on the caret)
  • Layout Button
    • Fix the blinking problem when going from w/o main video to with main video layout (there is a jumping effect)
  • Implement the currently unavailable settings options
  • Integrate the Window/Screen share into the new design
  • Replace the black screen with something when the video is off
  • Decide whether the header should be fixed or not
  • Unify Tooltips
