Guitarist both nights was Loren Conners. I didn't recognize the
drummer by sight, but he was really something. Extremely energetic and
talented.
In general, all you could ask for from a show, really -- was a great
and unearned privilege of mine to go both nights. Everyone played
beautifully, although the highlight was the closing piece on night 2
with Loren and Sheila doing a spontaneous duet on the house piano. The
Rep, band, and venue took great care for Loren's health and it was
clear he was having a ball.
Lyrics stayed uplifting for the most part and kept circling back to
true love and gratitude. I have a few snippets I wrote down.
Closing of night one: "I love you and I always will. I have a lot to
say. You mean so much to me, and that's a lot. ... The day never ends
when you are by my side ... you are my destiny, always and forever."
"I want to go to the star of your love ... I read your book over and
over again."
"Just wait and see what you can be when I hold you in my arms ... Do
it good, do it right, I will always wish you the best."
"Things are better when they're over because yourself to fall back
on."
And the closing of night two: "I open my eyes to the beauty of the
world. I'm filled with gratitude for the life you bestow on me."
...and gratitude for this weekend's performances just about sums it up
really. Thanks Eli, Corwood, and co. for making this happen.
