Hi folks,
A brand new monthly Balkan music series starts this Thursday night at the venerable Starry Plough in Berkeley featuring
3 local favorites. Please  come out for some listening, drinking and dancing and to support this series! More Balkan music, more of the time, yes.

The evening begins with The Disciples of Markos playing their renditions of classic Rebetiko songs from the 1930s. Rebetiko was the music of the Greek Underworld; songs of jail, hashish dens, knife fights, jealousy and other subjects from the seamy side of Athens. Janam follows with a mix of driving and sultry Albanian, Greek, Turkish & Appalachian tunes to get you dancing. Zoyres will close the night with a set of old favorites and originals played with improvisational bravado.
