EPA’s EE Model Grant Program is currently accepting applications. The program works to engage communities across the country through educational projects that have a lasting impact on local watersheds and air quality. This year’s competitive grants program will total $2.77 million. Grants will be awarded from each of the ten EPA regional offices and EPA’s headquarters in Washington, DC for a total of 22 to 32 grants. Each award will be an estimated $75,000 to $200,000.

Call for Submissions: GLP's Student Film Project Contest

Green Living Project (GLP) is accepting student short films for the Fall 2014 Student Film Project. In five minutes or less, student short films should tell a unique and compelling story about a sustainability-related project. Winning films will be screened at GLP Films' events throughout the year, and winners also receive gear and prizes up to $1,000 in value! Contest is open to 6th grade through graduate-level students.

Schools may register now for the 3rd Annual Great American Can Roundup School Challenge. The website provides everything needed to run a successful Roundup from a tool kit to posters and curriculum. The Can Manufacturers Institute will award $1,000 to the school in each state and the District of Columbia recycling the most aluminum cans per student and will give an additional $5,000 to the champion per capita recycling school nationwide, which is on top of the value of the aluminum cans. Show your school’s green spirit and environmental leadership.

Take the Go Bananas! Challenge

Go Bananas! Challenge is a competition that asks schools and scout groups across the country to “answer the call” and create campaigns to collect and recycle cell phones to help save gorillas.
Coltan, a mineral found in cell phones, is mined in gorilla habitats. By recycling old cell phones you reduce the demand.
$4,000 will be awarded to the school/scout group that collects the most cell phones and another $1,000 will be awarded to the group with the most creative collection campaign. The winning group will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2014.

Travel Scholarship Opportunity for High School Educators on the Night Skies Arts Academy
Global Explorers, in collaboration with the National Park Service, is offering a partially scholarship-based travel opportunity to educators and students in the US Southwest. This new program, the Night Skies Arts Academy, includes a nine-day wilderness adventure focused on artistic expression of the dark night sky. The trip includes a hike into Canyon de Chelly, rafting a portion of the San Juan River, and astronomy lessons with experts from NPS. Details >>
Travel Scholarship Opportunity on the NEW Global Explorers Climate Change Academy
Through a partnership with the National Park Service, Global Explorers is developing a Climate Change Academy for high school students in Summer 2014. This expedition is currently in development and likely to take place in Alaska, based out of Anchorage with exploration in Kenai Fjords and Denali National Parks. Youth Voices of Change Video Contest
Make a video for Youth Voices of Change and engage youth in climate change solutions. Youth in grades 4-12 are invited to submit a video (maximum 2 minutes long) that shares solution projects or helps raise awareness about climate change issues for a chance to win great prizes, including money for their project, new video equipment, and gift certificates to local businesses.
Ten lucky finalists and their videos will be featured on the big screen at the Youth Voices Film Festival on the evening of August 22, 2014 on the Sustainability Stage at the Eco Experience at the Minnesota State Fair.
