I’m reaching out to several partners to see who might want to take the lead/be involved  with continuing to develop and lead the Sunflowers for Lillian Dickson Park project.

It will not be a part of the Creating Healthy Places work nor will the Jamestown Renaissance Corp take the lead with it.

I am going to propose that I  could be a leader with the project wearing my hat as a Chaut. Co. Master Gardener and would love to serve a support role with another group taking the lead, or I could lead with others providing support.   I will be reaching out to JCC,  Northside PRIDE,  individuals in the LDP neighborhood, and community gardeners, etc.   to see if they might want to do so.

The SLDP Facebook page  and website (which my 11 year old grandson, Brandon, created and will continue to provide TA  and content management) are already up and going.

This project has great potential for community engagement, beautification, intergenerational gardening education, gardening for birds, etc.,

What do you think?

Any interest in being involved?

Once I get a sense of who might be interested, we will get a small group together to get growing!

Keep warm and safe!

Janet

Hi Janet,

The garden is too far away from Dunkirk for us to think about taking the lead on.  Although! Here at the Gleaning Project, we have many packets of sunflower seeds that we gleaned from one of our gardens' patch of giant sunflowers that I would be happy to allocate for the Lillian Dickson Park Project!

Would the seeds be helpful or do you have many seeds already?  And can the Gleaning Project be involved in any another way with this project?

Thanks!
-Hannah

Rebecca Nystrom, JCC biology professor, would probably be your best contact there.

Hi Marie,

What would Rebecca's contact info be, or is she a part of the google group?
Thank you!

Someone from the group already emailed me and said that Rebecca Nystrom was too busy with other projects, so you probably shouldn't contact her.

HI All – I’m in this googlegroup, and thanks so much for thinking of me! However, as I shared with Janet F, my duties here at the college will prevent me from taking on any additional commitments this semester, in spite of how much i LOVE this idea (and love sunflowers!).  I hope you find the right partner in this endeavor, and wish you great success!
