to James Hillman: Imaginal World
In the 'Soul's Code' Hillman lays out an alternative to explaining
away spiritual realities as little more than "projections of the
psyche." In this book he does'nt posit that religion/spirituality is
simply our psyche projecting itself, but rather that psyche is the
humble organ for recieving religious/spiritual truth.
Like Corbin's Angelic Realm, Hillman explores the 'Daimonic realm'-
i.e. that we each come into this world with a heavenly twin, and that
it is not our individuation we seek but the Angel or Daimon's
individuation that calls us. If we recieve this truth then we let the
image (-of Angel or Daimon, or whichever creature comes to you)
individuate our life and we can approximate our life to thier call. A
beautiful book and worth the read.
The voice of his Angel said to him,
If you perceive me, you perceive yourself.
But you cannot perceive me through yourself.
It is through my eyes that you see me and see yourself,
Through your eyes you cannot see me.
(From Ibn 'Arabi's Book of Theophanies)
