Dick -

I can confirm that yes we are all expected to have both Scout and Venture Crew YPT Training that is less than a year old on the last day of Jamboree.  This information was in one of the Council Guide distributions and is on the Jamboree website.

The training is available as a video through DoubleKnot.

Everybody,

Above is an email from our Troop Training Coordinator.  She notified me that I needed Venture YPT for Jamboree.  Apparently Kecia Mapp, who is on the jamboree staff, did Venture YPT.  I heard from somebody(maybe Kecia) that Jamboree scoutmasters needed Venture YPT in that they might walk down a path with a Venture scout.  I sent an email to Jonathan and he was not aware of the requirement.  Does anybody know what the requirement is?  I would appreciate knowing.  As well, I was not able to find a certification for Venture YPT on the BSA site.  There was a 4 page PDF only.

Thanks,

Dick

No I don't have the training yet.  It is on my list and I'll forward you the certificates when I complete it.

Thanks for checking.

Hi Dick,

Kecia notified me that she just took the Venturing Fast Start and Venturing Youth Protection Training that is required for Jamboree this summer.  I checked with the BSA website and it doesn't show that you have taken these yet.  If that's correct, this is a friendly reminder that you will need to do that soon.  :-)  If you have the training, could you please get me a copy of certificates?  If not, would you please notify me when you have taken them and I can update our records.

Thanks,

Folks -

Another thing you may want to check on is your BSA membership status.  I was just going through my wallet picking out the stuff I do not want to carry to Jamboree (Library & Zoo Memberships, etc), finding my Scout Registration card I noted my membership expired on May 31st, OOPS!

Working with Goldie and Crystal at the Scout Office I am now once again a registered scouter in good standing.  ;-)

This and the need to have current Scout and Venture YPT Training might be good reminders to all DAC Jamboree Adults.

Our interpretation is that as a contingent traveling together with both Scouts and Ventures that both versions are required.  This is the Big Horn interpretation also.

Be that as it may this is what I have done to ensure coverage.

Brad,
I must admit, it is a little confusing. I based my interpretation on the Jamboree only polices and not BSA or Council policies. It seems that the Jamboree policy exceeds the BSA and Council policies.

On Page 8 of the Jamboree Council Guide, it states that Scout leaders must complete Youth Protection Training. It also says that Venturing Leaders must complete Youth Protection Training.  Neither states which version so I interpreted this to be based on the position.

On Page 10 of the Jamboree Council Guide, it states that Staff positions must have YPT for both Boy Scout and Venturing.

On Page 11 of the Jamboree Council Guide, is the beginning of the Code of Conduct.  The Code of Conduct continues to page 12 where it states that the adult leader must complete YPT based on their registered Scouting membership; Boy Scout YPT for Boy Scout leaders and Venturing YPT for Venturing leaders.

Based on these guidelines, I collected Boy Scout YPT for Scoutmasters and Venturing YPT for Venturing Leaders.

Since we have some, or perhaps many, leaders that will be performing Staff functions, they should complete both based on page 10.

Personally, I completed both and recommend completing both. You can take both classes at myscouting.scouting.org
