September 23, Sunday @ 8PM, Ishtar rocks Murphy's Tap Room in Regent Square (1106 South Braddock Ave 15218). Our featured dancer is Hakan, the ONLY male bellydancer in Pittsburgh. He will be performing an improvisational drum solo and a sword dance. Hakan is not to be missed!!! FREE event! (18+ please) Open floor dancing and jam session with the band immediately following. Bring your drum and instrument!
October 5, Friday @ 11PM, Ishtar plays the Ava Lounge (126 S. Highland Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15206). We have the honor of opening for PhatManDee and her band featuring Nick Ragheb and Coulter Harper. The fusion of Jazz standards and Turkish drinking songs will surely entice you to spend the modest $7.00 to hear us perform! Ishtar with Nick will play classic bellydance tunes at 11PM, followed by PhatManDee, Colter and Nick performing jazz standards and original PhatManDee songs from her latest release! (21+ only please)
October 21, Sunday, @ 7:30PM there will be a Hijaz Jam at our friend Jacques' House. Thanks to Jacques, we are reviving a Pittsburgh tradition, the Hijaz Jam. They are always fun parties! Musicians and drummers can play Middle Eastern music, chat, network, talk about music, drink and eat. Not necessarily in that order. Please bring any instrument you have, Middle Eastern music isn't just for Middle Eastern instruments anymore. Drummers are welcome. There is space for dancing, too. All members of Ishtar will be there, past and present. I have sheet music and practice mp3s available on www.dorku.com. Please RSVP for Hijaz Jam privately thru email. Party address and directions will be forwarded to you.
For our fans who are keeping track, Ishtar will be bringing DaBurgh to the DC area in October. We are playing at Balktoberfest in DC with some AMAZING bands and also performing at the All Seasons Hafla in Maryland. Visit our homepage for more details.
