Hello fans of the Jalsah!

Jalsah Pittsburgh VII  will be on Saturday March 1, 2008 at Your Inner Vagabond, 8PM. Mark your calendars today! The Jalsah is in conjunction with Your Inner Vagabond's Grand Opening weekend.

Our special guest is Carmine T Guida from NYC. Carmine will be teaching a Middle Eastern Rhythms for All Percussionists workshop from 6-7 PM on Saturday March 1, 2008. Workshop cost at the door is $20 - advance ONLINE price is $15. Description: A workshop for all kinds of percussionists! Learn the top 10 most popular Middle Eastern rhythms used in folk and bellydance music. This workshop is perfect for all levels who are interested in adding more rhythms to their repertoire. Jalsah Pittsburgh VII --- all musicians sit in with the band! Bring any instrument you have: drum, congas, clarinet, sax, flute, guitar, violin, cello, zills, kanun...you get the idea. Sheet music will be provided to borrow or to purchase. Musicians: if you need a special type of sheet music other than Concert C or B Flat, please email mel...@ishtar-music.com with any concerns or requests. Musicians, if you have microphones and cables please bring them as there will be a PA system to use.

OPEN FLOOR DANCING all night! Everyone can try out the moves from bellydance class. Community participation is what the Jalsah is all about!

EMay will be leading the bellydancer warmup from 8-8:30PM.

Dance teachers: have 3 of your students purchase advance tickets ONLINE at http://www.jalsah.org/sites/Jalsah/Locations/Pittsburgh/ and YOU can come to the Jalsah for free! Make sure your students include your dance and mundane name with their purchase, so I know who belongs to whom. :-)

Bring extra cash because Your Inner Vagabond will serving sumptuous snacks and exotic beverages from their menu. Your Inner Vagabond is also a BYOB venue so you can bring your favorite alcohol to mix with their drinks!

Back in Pittsburgh from an extended stay in Istanbul is Nick Ragheb, co-founder of the Jalsah concept! Come say "How yinz doin' n'at?" to Nick at the Jalsah. Starting Sunday March 9, Nick and I (Melissa of Ishtar) will be co-teaching a series of workshops on Ottoman Art Music and Rhythms at Your Inner Vagabond.
