20250726_083329.jpgMy homemade anemometer has been displaying wind direction and speed on a small LED panel in our living room for over 20 years. Because we wanted to see it in our bright conservatory as well, I had to come up with something other than LEDs. I had to delve back into the old C-Control, which has worked flawlessly for all those years. https://youtu.be/_tzfkg2mUTE

The small C-control circuit board has 8 analog and 16 digital ports, two frequency inputs, a 12-volt and a 5-volt power supply, 2 PWM connections, a UART...20250726_083422.jpg

Well, the programming package still includes the dreaded GOTO and GOSUB. A bit of a return to the old basic world, then.

In the early years, this was quite popular. There were forums and bright minds who were able to add even more features to the device. Even now, I'm amazed at how much I've done with it and how much I could still use it for.

And yet, over time, it became quieter, the big IT guys got tired of it, and Conrad, after a few desperate attempts at updating it, stopped shipping and production.

I delved a bit deeper into the JAL world after Wouter helped me with a feature the C-Control didn't have, which I needed to let my boat control the autopilot itself.

While I was working on my construction of skewers, beads, and some scraps, I thought about the workings of the JAL world.

Wasn't JAL “Just Another Language”?

Is it “Just Another LED now?

Are we moving on to “Just Another Legend then?

Repeating the C-c0ntrol story?

Hi Hans,

I saw your video. Very nice way of showing the direction of the wind.

About JAL. I would like to see more contributors and users of JAL. I am stil l working on some things, sometimes a project, device files for new PICs and sometimes - if requested or if I need it myself - a new library. And when I can find the courage I sometimes try to fix a bug in the JAL compiler. Recently I contacted Kyle if he could help out with some complex, but important, bugs. Maybe he will.

Currently I am working on an adjustable current source and current sink project which I will post on my Github account and make a video on Youtube to promote JAL. I will also post the project on Instructables.

Next to that I recently made a library for the VL52L0X time-of-flight distance sensor. I am planning to make a video for that library too.

Since doing JAL stuff is still fun to do, I will continue with it but as said more contributors and more users are welcome.

Kind regards,

Rob
