Hello everyone,

We have now launched a blogging platform on the Java EE Guardians website - https://javaee-guardians.io/blog/.

From time-to-time we will publish original content on the platform such as the Joint Community Open Letter (https://javaee-guardians.io/2018/01/02/joint-community-open-letter-on-java-ee-naming-and-packaging/ ) from Java EE Guardians. For the most part though, the blog is intended to be a community shared platform. This means we mostly intend to curate and republish good blog entries from the community (with permission and credits of course). We recently republished the first syndicated post Where is Java EE going? (https://javaee-guardians.io/2018/01/11/where-is-java-ee-going/), originally written by Jean-François James, a Java EE Guardian. Thanks, Jean-François!

To that end, if you feel your Java EE related blog entry could be a good fit for the shared platform, please reply to this thread with the link to your original blog entry. We will be happy to openly discuss it and publish on the Java EE Guardians blog if suitable. Similarly, if you see a good blog entry out there that isn't yours, let us know and we will figure out how to republish it. Finally, if there are topics we should be blogging about, discuss here.

Thank you for your continuous support!

Cheers,
Manik Magar

What do folks feel about republishing this blog entry: https://blog.worldline.tech/2018/02/12/ee4j-spring.html? I was hoping for a warm reception for this honestly but mostly saw indifference. Maybe that alone is reason to publish it on our blogging platform?

Please chime in with your honest thoughts.

P.S.: I have heard some unconfirmed statements that Pivotal is joining EE4J. If there is any truth to that, this blog could be time sensitive.

I like the article.

+1 for reposting, regardless if Pivotal is joining EE4J or not.

I think that the community needs opinions like this that are objective and try to unite the community. If Pivotal thinks EE4J is a good move worth supporting, even better. But even if not, it's good to show that the community expects that EE4J is an activity aiming to unity rather than to divide and compete.

I like the Article and I am sure that, many developers out there, must be sharing this dream. There are situations where a mix of both exists in the same environment, for various reasons.

+1 to for publishing this.

+1 on republishing this post. I am in total agreement, as I know plenty of excellent developers in the Spring camp. Many of them simply choose Spring because it is what they have come to learn for their job. Others like Spring because it affords them abilities that Java EE does not have to offer. Others still simply do not know how much progress has been made within the Java EE ecosystem. In the end, I’ve not met many (if any) Spring developers that are completely opposed to the Java EE Platform. In fact, many of them rely upon some APIs (JPA) every day, and they know how important Java EE is to the ecosystem.

I hope to one day see Spring and Java EE folks working together to create brilliant solutions for the JavaEE.next platform.

Hello,

Somewhat late, but here is some advice anyway. I do think that Pivotal probably won't even bother. If Spring implemented CDI, for example, they would be long irrelevant. Still, I think it's good to this article is just a positive way of seeing it, and that it's always good to leave the door open.

So, just my 2 cents: thanks for publishing it.

I still would like to wait for Guillermo's write-up, but in the meanwhile Buhake Sindi just posted a pretty good write-up on the Jakarta EE name selection: http://theelitegentleman.blogspot.co.za/2018/02/java-ee-is-officially-retired.html. I personally think the content and mood is just about right and certainly worthy of re-posting on it's own right. In fact, it would not even hurt to have two different re-posts on the topic with slightly different perspectives?

Thoughts? Keep in mind, Buhake is also a Java EE Guardian, he just doesn't post here much for whatever the reason. He does produce quite a bit of good Java EE content.

That's a wonderful article, I wouldn't hesitate to repost it at the guardians blog. I think if Guillermo finishes his article it can be posted as well. But it should be posted as an opinion of a guardian (group of guardians) and not as an official statement of the guardians because it's clear from Buhake's article that not all guardians share the same view.

Cheers,
Manik Magar

Manik, how is your schedule these days? Could you take care of this and ask him to make the updates/fixes? If not, can any of the other folks with already access to the site do it?

Here is the author's Twitter account: https://twitter.com/javabullets. I have already given him a head's up.

Please let me know. All else fails I'll do it.

Hi Reza,

Unfortunately I am running on a tight schedule due project deadlines. Is it possible for someone else to take care of this one please? I am hoping to get to normal schedule in next 3-4 weeks. I can take care of next one that we may choose.

Thanks!

I just wanted to give Ken and Josh a quick shout out for stepping up and taking care of this. Thanks guys. It does not mean we don't need more people to help - especially in other areas like the general site, Google Group administration and Twitter. The more the merrier (I do kindly ask though that you try to make a serious commitment).

Let me know if anyone objects to publishing Otavio's entry on our blog (I already have his permission): https://dzone.com/articles/moving-jakarta-forward-jakarta-nosql-has-approved. I believe what he is doing is tremendously helpful for Jakarta EE and he deserves our support.

Manik has been pretty tied up lately. Want to take up responsibility for the blog? The work isn't that much but there are occasional entries definitely worth republishing/supporting like the one from Otavio. If all goes well, we will have more of those as Jakarta EE moves forward (probably with our active help the way things look like at the moment).

Let me know what you think and we will set you up with access.

Josh or Dennis can give you access offline. If you have used WordPress
before, adding a blog entry is super simple.

Here is Otavio's original blog entry:
https://dzone.com/articles/moving-jakarta-forward-jakarta-nosql-has-approved.
He put the source here:
https://gist.github.com/otaviojava/ae9d8f9e8206351f84ad03a9d7577094.
Just follow this format:
https://javaee-guardians.io/2018/03/02/java-ee-is-officially-retired-its-now-called-jakarta-ee/.

The post may need some light proofreading. If you need help with it,
just let me know and I will proofread the draft before you publish.

Just wanted to check - are you all set? If not, I will help connect the dots.

I am traveling to a conference at the moment (talking about Java EE of course), but I will do it ASAP.

Thanks for getting this done. It is very much appreciated.

The post is now published and I got it out there on our Twitter account.

Thousand apologies for the delay. I just got back from South America and needed to catch up on the day job as well as JakartaOne organization.

Thanks so much for helping on this. Hopefully there will be more posts like this from the community worth republishing soon enough.
