Thinner10mil cards are sometimes used for printing business cards, while thicker clamshell cards are often required for IDs that incorporate RFID technology and must contain embedded antennas and circuitry.

While virtually all ID card printers are built to operate with plastic ID card dimensions in the CR-80 format, it is important to check compatibility when using plastic cards of differing sizes. For instance, there are oversized card printers specifically designed to handle larger cards.

CR79: Slightly smaller than a standard size card, the CR79 card is 3.303" x 2.051". CR79 cards typically have an adhesive back and are commonly used for printing and adhering to a clamshell proximity card. Not all card printers are capable of printing on a CR79 card.

Helpful Tip

When designing an ID card, you may or may not be able to print to the very edge of the card. Direct-to-card ID card printers leave a small unprinted border around the perimeter of the card. If you are using a retransfer printer, however, you can print over the edge of the card with no issues.

Note: ID card printers with CR100 size card printing capability are very limited. Before attempting to print these types of cards, make sure your printer is capable of printing this size.

Remember that direct-to-card ID card printers leave a small white border around the outer edge of the ID card. However, if you are using a retransfer printer, you can easily print over the edge of the card.

ID card printers come in all shapes and sizes with an abundance of additional capabilities. One feature that is common among most card printers is the standard ID card size they're capable of printing.

Numeric values in the SI and/or Imperial measurement system [...] may have been rounded off and therefore are consistent with, but not exactly equal to, each other. Either system may be used, but the two should not be intermixed or reconverted. The original design was made using the Imperial measurement system.

An "informative" (i.e. non-mandatory) annex[7] describes how an ID-000 sized card may be included in an ID-1 size card for processing (e.g. in an ID-1 reader), but with "relief areas around the perimeter of the ID-000 size card to allow it to be removed from the ID-1 size card without punching tools". An ID-1 size card containing an ID-000 size card is denoted as ID-1/000. This was the common design of SIMs when mini-SIMs were common, usually being issued as standard SIMs, i.e. in ID-1 format, with a removable ID-000 section that, when removed, was a mini-SIM.

This is also the size we most commonly use when photo ID card printing, along with it being the standard size for library cards, loyalty cards, hotel key cards, membership cards and more. CR80 cards are also very similar to the size of standard business cards.

CR80 cards are available in a variety of materials, and are not just limited to plastic cards. You can get CR80 cards in PVC, recycled plastic and biodegradable composite, with paper cards also available in this size.

CR79 cards are slightly smaller at 84mm x 52mm. These cards are designed to fit snugly into a protective clamshell, with many already having an adhesive back for additional security once in the clamshell.

CR100 cards are also a great option if you need to display lots of information as they have more surface space. However, the cards and their associated printers are more costly than CR80 and CR79 cards, with cards usually produced by an in-house printing service.

ID card size is also important in ensuring cards are compatible with ID card holders. Whether you already have card holders or are looking to purchase new ones, you must check if the size of your ID cards is suitable. Card holders are extremely useful in protecting cards from wear and tear and also help to stop ID cards from fading.

Another reason why the size of your ID cards matters is because cards must be able to fit into your card printer. As mentioned earlier, this means it is crucial to check if your photo ID card dimensions are compatible with your ID card printer, especially if cards are a bespoke size.

The CAC, a "smart" card about the size of a credit card, is the standard identification for active duty uniformed Service personnel, Selected Reserve, DoD civilian employees, and eligible contractor personnel. It is also the principal card used to enable physical access to buildings and controlled spaces, and it provides access to DoD computer network and systems.

The four different types of cards are listed below. The card you will be eligible for will be determined by your "Sponsor," the person affiliated with the DoD or other federal agency responsible for verifying and authorizing your need for an ID card. The uses of the card depend on the component/Command that you support. Each component/Command can customize the CAC to meet its specific needs.

Hey. The ID card that you are issued.....I'm looking at a lanyard with a ID holder but I have to specific the holder size. Choices are 5 x 3.5 or 4.5 x 3. Does anyone know which one will work?? Thanks!!

Used to always stop at the Front Desk as soon as I boarded to get the hole punched. Last cruise I bought my own hole puncher and punched my own hole (I was careful not to punch over the barcode - did punch just above my lifeboat number). Those around us in te VIP Lounge shared my hole puncher and all saved a trip to the Front Desk.

When we took a group on a HAL cruise, we bought everyone a Witz waterproof ID holder to hold their ship key, ID, and some cash. My DSIL is on her 3rd one after a dozen years and countless trips. You can get them at Amazon or any boating supply store. We also bought some small Otterbox cases (1000) which hold more.

If you get the larger holder with your lanyard it will hold your passpost in addition to your room key and a few $'s for tips when you get off for an excursion. All that safely around your neck and tucked in.;)

The increased attention to disaster preparedness in recent years has emphasized the important role that licensed professionals have in addressing critical needs when they arise. To help ensure that licensed professionals can quickly and easily be identified as New York State licensed professionals as they carryout their professional activities day-to-day as well as in times of emergency, the New York State Education Department is now offering all NYS licensed and registered professionals the opportunity to be issued a professional photo ID card.
