Subject: Sea exploitation
Dear supporter,
Caught red-handed: A Taiwanese ship, pretending to be Indian, Caught stealing our fish and the livelihoods of Indian fisherfolk
Caught: Taiwanese vessels, pretending to be Indian [1], stealing fish and the livelihoods of Indian fishers.
They are doing this by misusing the Letters of Permit (LoP) scheme. [2]The scheme allows Indian fishing firms to fish in India’s seas, but is being flouted by foreign fishing vessels, mainly from Thailand and Taiwan. These vessels exploit regulatory loopholes so they can fish, often illegally, in India’s seas.
The Ministry of Agriculture, which issues the LoPs, needs to crack-down on this fishing racket. Over 25,000 people have already asked Minister Sharad Pawar to take action. The internet and social networks have strengthened revolutions across the world. We can use them to put more pressure on the minister.
Spread the word on social networks and ask your friends to sign the petition, asking Minister Sharad Pawar to stop this racket by suspending the faulty LoP scheme.
Thanks a billion!
