बहु य लोय लुंचियसिर दीसहिं पर रागद्दोसेहिं सहुं विलसहिं।
पढहिं गुणहि सत्थइ वक्खाणहि परि परमत्थु तित्थु सु न जाणहि॥

[बहवो लोका लुञ्चितशिरसो दृश्यन्ते परं रागद्वेषाभ्यां सह विलसन्ति।
पठन्ति गुणयन्ति शास्त्राणि व्याख्यानयन्ति परं परमार्थं तत्र तन्न जानन्ति॥]

{bahu ya lōya luṁciyasira dīsahiṁ para rāgaddōsēhiṁ sahuṁ vilasahiṁ.
paḍhahiṁ guṇahi sattha:i vakkhāṇahi pari paramatthu titthu su na jāṇahi..
}

Many are seen with their hair plucked out (i.e. bearing the outer signs of renunciation), yet still thriving in attachment and aversion. They read, compose, and preach scriptures, but remain unaware of the true reality themselves.
