Hi,
I have learnt that "Jain Paryushan Ustav" is being celebrated this year
during August 22, 2014 to August 29, 2014. This Ustav has a special menu
(learnt from fellow members of our mess) and our caterer has agreed to
provide as per the menu you decide.
A gentle man from Jain community help me by providing the menu and guide
lines, see folowing
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Jain community is celebrating its annual religious festival, Paryushan
from 22/8/14 to 29/8/14
Therefore, We have some food guidelines for this fest
Food guidelines:
1. Dinner must be provided before sunset(5-6:30 pm).
2. We can't eat onions, potatoes, garlic, carrots, beet, ginger -
Basically we're Jain.
3. We don't eat green leafy vegetables (including tomato, lemon, green
chilli etc.) and fruits for the 8 days.
4. We can eat all sweets that you provide at dinner.
5. We insist that all food to be prepared on same day/ fresh. I know it's
kind of obvious but it's important to us.
So the general food we can eat includes chawlein, rajma, chhole, chane ki
daal, gatte, besan, papad, badi, danamethi papad, ker sangri, moong,
mogar, kadi, lapsi, halwa, upma, poha, idli sambhar, dosa, sambhar, dal ,
pulav, paratha etc.
Important: The above guidelines are only for these 8 days and for the
whole year the term Jain food means food with no potatoes, onion, garlic,
ginger, carrot but all other things are ok."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any suggestions/objections are welcome. From tomorrow, this menu will be
followed and change as per the majority of requests.
Regards,
Hussain Bhukya
