I'm using PingFang SC font in InDesign but when I go to Illustrator PingFang is nowhere to be found. In fact, Chinese fonts are romanised in InDesign but in Ilustrator they are in Chinese characters. Why is this, and how do I sync Illustrator's fonts so they are labelled in the same manner as in InDesign?

Packaging an illustrator.ai file for a client and the included, non expanded Chinese font is missing from the package. I switched to a few different fonts and eventually tried one installed from the Adobe fonts - Hellofont ID QingHuaLi - and it still didn't work. If I can't package, is there another way to get the adobe font file?

There already are a range of Chinese fonts in OSX. You should be able to just open your document. If you have a problem it may be an old encoding in the document, make sure you save any Word document as Unicode.

But what about typing some new characters? Can I choose what fonts I will type? I mean when I open the font tray, there's a whole bunch of English fonts there. I just wonder if I can add some fonts like Microsoft Word?

To type Chinese you have to change the keyboard layout to Pinyin or something related. Once that is done, the font will take care of itself. If for some reason you don't like the style of the one which appears, you just select the text and change it in the font menu of the app.

Also you should make sure that in system prefs/language & region you have Chinese higher up on the list than Japanese (if both are present). Otherwise you may get Japanese versions of some Han characters instead of Chinese versions.

But when I want to choose them in illustrator to try and see how they look in my document with a specific text, they show up with their chinese name, and I can't identify them. They do show a small sample on the right but it's not enough to really see how they'll look in the document:

I am working with a Chinese brand company and would like to remove some of their image links and replace them with fonts. I am having a hard time finding a authoritative source regarding the availability of Chinese fonts.

Does anyone know any fonts that are pushed on both OSx and Windows systems? I have seen quality English font comparisons, but would like to find something Chinese related. If I don't get any promising answers, I may have to make it myself...

I can tell you that the most popular chinese font is simsun and that the vast majority of users are on windows and i mean an extremely high number. Even people who buy mac books will install windows on them. I think you should look through the wiki list and choose the one you think is best. FYI the reason they used the images is to solve the exact problem you are not facing

I am learning Chinese using Anki (traditional characters). Currently I use the SimSun font, but I would like to change it something that looks a bit better (more like brush-stroke, but not overly flowerly; something like the one used in Skritter would be good). The reason is mainly that I have gotten too used to only the SimSun font and now find it difficult to recognize the characters in other fonts.

I am facing trouble in displaying chinese fonts in my template. All I get is boxes. While righht clicking and selecting properties, I am able to see the chinese font, but i want the same in template view. Kindly help me ASAP.

Traditional Chinese is not compatible with Simplified Chinese in Proe, and vica versa. When you read the drawing containing Simplifed Chinese, but you set PRO_LANG=CHT, the text is either random ASCII or random Chinese characters.

I am using package xeCJK and I need to do a \setCJKmainfont command but I don't even know which fonts I have available on my system. I have quickly installed a bunch of Chinese fonts but I can't recall what I have installed...

I succeeded to create another language in TouchGFX Designer (vV. 4.10.0), translated some of the menu items into chinese using google translator (e.g. "System setup" = "系统设置" ) and extended the wild cards of my typographics to have characters 0x20-0xFEFF.

We have lots of chinese customers that use this feature. Check your generated/fonts/src folder to see if the fontconverter actually found the glyphs in the font. The pixel data for the unicodes are in the generated .cpp files and there's a comment for each unicode.

I added a chinese font "SimSun-ExtB" as additional typography. The font file placed in "assets\fonts" is 15000 kB large (calibri is only 1600 kB). This font file definitely holds the chinese characters.

But despite of this the generated font file only has Unicode character definitions from 0x20 to 0xFF. Nothing else. I defined 0x20 - 0xFFFF as Wildcard set and this is seen in UnicodeListsimsunb_0_30_4.txt.

No problem, Gaby! Yeah, a full range is huge. 4.11.0 features dynamic fonts / glyph caching which means you can place this large file on external storage and cache individual glyphs to be presented on a view.

You may want to use a smaller range of glyphs if you're just going to show a demo. Then you could also fit it in external flash. Since you don't have access to binary fonts / glyph caching yet, you can't place it anywhere else right now. Glyph caching was created with resource constrained devices in mind. But i guess when it comes to storing chinese fonts every device is constrained

just wanted to let you know, that the chinese presentation is working now! Uff. Some characters still are presented as '?', but that is probably due to my slightly restricted character range. Actually I was hoping to get all characters shown, but as we will fly to China tomorrow I can't help it now... And I am wondering if Google did translate my text correctly anyway. Porbably we will get some smiling faces over there when I show them my chinese translations...

Now, Emacs has modernized dramatically since, and X is using fontconfig to define fonts, and Chinese encoding has changed from gb2312 to UTF8 as default as well. So, I'm wondering what's the modern fontsets setting for Emacs is to work with Chinese properly?

PS. I'm currently configuring my new Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial environment, and for the first time, I've come to the point to be satisfied with my Ubuntu 中文设置. My Emacs is the last problem to conquer.

I have a very irritating problem. Everyday the default Chinese fonts (including all fonts for reply emails, new emails, and forwards) that I set after clocking outlook would become garbled. Every time I reset it, the result is that the next time my computer reboots to clock outlook will revert to a garbled font again. Very irritating. The screenshot below shows the garbled fonts that appeared yesterday and today. Can you please help me to solve this problem? Thanks for your help.

The other day, I had problems viewing a document, because it was encoded in ANSI. So I went and changed the system language to Chinese (nothing AppLocale could fix for some reason). When I was done, I switched back to English. Now, all Japanese characters has a Chinese looking font (noticeable especially on the Katakana):

I cleaned the C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder and re-installed them all directly from the Windows XP disc, but the issue still remains. I also went to the "Regional and Language Options" applet in the Control Panel and disabled/de-selected anything that had to do with Chinese languages, fonts, etc.

Recently Amazon rolled out an update to Kindle Paperwhite(Generation 1) which added functionalities like vocabulary review, which are nice. However, one big problem I'm having is that it somehow deleted the KaiTi楷体 Chinese font it originally had, leaving only SongTi宋体 and Heiti黑体 as possible choices. Those fonts have a very tight line spacing which makes for a difficult reading experience.

Well OK I somehow found the answer myself. The problem of Chinese fonts not updating is not because of my registration at US Amazon, but because of my system font not being Chinese. As soon as I changed my font to Chinese it almost immediately started the font update.

I have a similar issue using Storyline 360. I started with Arial font and imported the Chinese translation file (Traditional Chinese). The linguist says the font in the menu works, but not the text on the pages. Why is this? I set the global font to Arial. Then I changed the font on screen to MingLiu_ExtB, but the linguist says it hasn't changed. How does the menu display fonts?

Just open your project, go to the Design tab on the Storyline ribbon, click the Fonts drop-down list, and select Use Modern Text at the bottom of the list. This converts the entire project to modern text all at once.
