Does anyone have experience with new 8300 series Edge platform routers. I have two new 8300's that I was about to put into production when I discovered that my console password was not working properly. The particular password that I set on the device was 17 characters in length. I set the same password for the local user account and my enable secret. The password works properly when using the local credentials for a vty session, however, when trying to use the same local credentials for a console connection it fails. Similarly, the enable secret password works properly in a vty session but not in a console session. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas? I am currently running Amsterdam 17.3.3 on this device. I upgraded the other to Bengalaru 17.5.1a, problem still exists. Trying to determine if this is a hardware issue or software; I have numerous 4K's in my environment that do not have this issue running on 17.3.3

I'm replacing an old edge device with two Cisco 8300 routers; Dual ISP setup. The 8300 routers were also ordered with 4 port LAN modules. I'm putting together the config before the routers have arrived and want to figure out the down stream config. Basically, I have HA firewalls(active/passive) sitting down stream from the routers. Can you configure HSRP on the pair of 8300 routers using the lan module interfaces. I'm thinking it would need layer 2 connection between the two routers and SVIs configuration on both routers. It looks like it should be possible but I'm looking to see if this has been done before. I've attached a picture to help explain the design.

I scanned through the Cisco doc on interchassis high availability. It appears the deployment model has one active and one standby router. I need both routers actively routing traffic for this project, so I don't think HA will work for me. It maybe something to consider for other deployments I may have in the future though.

Built on the Cisco Unified Access Data Plane (UADP) application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and QuantumFlow Processor (QFP), which powers the industry-leading Cisco Catalyst products, the Catalyst IR8300 is designed to provide outstanding flexibility and adaptability to address the latest needs of network evolution.

The Catalyst IR8300 router meets the demands of the growing number of connected devices in modern substations by offering increased secure throughput (2 Gbps) at exponentially higher encryption speeds than those of its predecessor. It delivers a twenty-fold IPsec throughput improvement over the 2010 Connected Grid Router, allowing customers to scale their networks for mission-critical tasks. The Catalyst IR8300 industrial router allows for increased flexibility in network architecture planning. With built-in and modular interface flexibility, the platforms are ready to serve high-speed cloud access use cases. There are several NIM/PIM modules including serial, T1/E1, and LTE/5G, as well as timing modules with precise stratum 3E oscillator with support for GNSS, SyncE, PTP, IRIG-B, and TOD. These modules provide customers with the ability to avoid costly rip-and-replace upgrades and to simply upgrade as connectivity needs and technologies evolve.

The Catalyst 8300 platform offers modular access with a diverse set of WAN connectivity choices. It offers an easy upgrade path to wireless WAN, including to 5G with a pluggable module. The Catalyst 8300 also supports modules compatible with the Cisco ISR 4000 family.

We support voice in a couple of ways: 1) Integrating functions ( Analog Voice) on NIM modules (FXO/FXS, up to 24 ports of FXS) supported on C8300; 2) Separately with Voice Gateways to provide higher scale (Up to 144 ports of FXS) and redundancy. The voice support on C8300 is planned to be parity with ISR4K

Cisco has introduced a family of Catalyst routers built for the company's software-defined WAN technology. The latest Catalyst 8000 products provide a much better SD-WAN platform than the ISR routers that drew customer complaints in the past.

This week, Cisco released the Catalyst 8300 Series for running an SD-WAN in branch offices and the 8500 Series for companies that need an aggregation router. Cisco calls its 8000 portfolio Edge Platforms.

The 8300 hardware is an upgrade of the Integrated Services Router (ISR) 4400, and the 8500 Series is a refresh of the Aggregation Services Router (ASR) 1001-HX and the 1002-HX. Cisco designed the 8500 for data centers and colocation centers.

Cisco launched the latest routers three years after acquiring SD-WAN maker Viptela for $610 million. Having special routers for the technology will likely please loyal customers unhappy with the software's performance on the ISR.

"We love Cisco, but it was almost like [it was saying] 'Hey, let's go ahead and bolt this new technology onto an older router,'" said Ed Vanderpool, IT technical manager at Adventist. "[The 8300] is a new router that is really built for this, instead of trying to do a bolt-on."

The 8300 Series comprises four models with six built-in Ethernet ports of 1 Gb or 10 Gb, delivering 2 Gbps or 5 Gbps of SD-WAN throughput. The 8500 Series consists of two models with options for 1/10/40/100 GbE ports.

The devices run the IOS-XE network operating system and include an Intel x86 CPU with up to 32 GB of DRAM in the 8300 and 64 GB in the 8500. The computing platform runs container-based microservices for analytics apps and other extensions from Cisco or its partners.

Cisco also introduced the Catalyst Cellular Gateway with the latest routers to connect the new hardware and ISR and ASR devices to 4G LTE. Companies can use the gateway to make a cellular network either as a backup or a primary SD-WAN link.

The Cisco Catalyst 8300 Series Edge Platforms are best-of-breed, 5G-ready, cloud edge platforms designed for accelerated services, multi-layer security, cloud-native agility, and edge intelligence to accelerate your journey to cloud.
Cisco Catalyst 8300 Series Edge Platforms (Catalyst 8300) with Cisco IOS XE SD-WAN Software deliver Cisco's secure, cloud-scale SD-WAN solution for the branch. The Catalyst 8300 Series is purpose-built for high performance and integrated SD-WAN Services along with flexibility to deliver security and networking services together from the cloud or on premises. It provides higher WAN port density and a redundant power supply capability. The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge Platforms have a wide variety of interface options to choose from-ranging from lower and higher module density with backward compatibility to a variety of existing WAN, LAN, voice, and compute modules. Powered by Cisco IOS XE, fully programmable software architecture, and API support, these platforms can facilitate automation at scale to achieve zero-touch IT capability while migrating workloads to the cloud. Catalyst 8300 Series Edge Platforms also come with Trustworthy Solutions 2.0 infrastructure that secures the platforms against threats and vulnerabilities with integrity verification and remediation of threats. The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge Platforms are well suited for medium-sized and large enterprise branch offices for high WAN IPSec performance with integrated SD-WAN services.
