Hello everyone,

While preparing yesterday'sJAITools release, I had a look at the
GeoTools and JAI-Ext poms to see what was being used, and then at the
JAI-Ext sources. I was impressed by the amount of work that has been
done there in a relatively short time, but it also made me wonder if
there is now any point in maintaining a separate JAITools project.
Would it be better to fold the JAITools sources into JAI-Ext ?

For my own part, chasing employment over the last couple of years has
taken me away from Java geospatial work. Despite my continuing
interest, there has been no active development of the JAITools code
base and not enough free time to do it as a hobby. But there is a lot
of useful code there (including the very significant contributions by
Andrea, Daniele and Simone) and it would be great to see it being used
and further developed.

What do people think ?

Michael

Ciao Michael,
I believe merging the two projects would make a lot of sense, it is
actually something I brought up internally more than once.

Is this something you might help us with if we came up with some funding?

Hi Simone,

From my quick look at JAI-Ext I think that even if I was still very
active in development my inclination would be to merge the two
projects. It's hard to see what separates them in terms of
applications.

I'd certainly be happy to help but I couldn't spend any large amount
of time on it until December due to other commitments. However, would
it really require that much work or just be largely copy and paste ?

Ciao Michael,
I would think that some effort would be required since JAI-Ext strive
to support ROI and No Data everywhere.

Let me know if you have some time to spare in to start moving things over.
