As you descend the steep path into the marsh, you find it a little difficult to navigate (Climb checks please, DC 5).

From the marsh you hear some kinds of animal sounds, probably birds.  When there is no wind it is creepily quiet, as if a curse were on the whole area.  And when the wind picks up, the trees and bushes move in a discordant dance, creating creaks and groans and what sound like footfalls.  But you realize it is probably just the place itself.

At the bottom of the cliff you find some torn bits of clothing, and other garbage.  There is evidence of the Goblins going this way, and not too long ago.

Tara becomes a little jumpy at first, grabbing the hilt of her sword
at times, ready to draw it over her shoulder. Not seeing anything
coming at the party, she relaxes slightly, just watching for anything
to come up out of the watery mush all around them.

Some of the group have no problem climbing down, but Lorus gets stuck half way down, and the others help him get to the bottom.

Once at the bottom of the 'climb', Nico looks around.  Well, welcome to the swamp!  I imagine from here out on it will be slower going with the less durable terrain.   Do you think there are snakes?  I don't like snakes.    Nico sighs, and looks around the debris the goblins had spread, hoping to see something helpful to the party's goal.

Tara smiles at Nico, laughing softly, "Then your really not going to
like it here, hehe, If we dont see any snakes, its because something
bigger, ate them. I dont think any of us are going to like that." she
says, pausing to look around as the others make their way down the
hill.

Bug looks thoughtful, then asks, "Is a swamp the same as a marsh?"

And a loud, shrill call of a bird or other animal seems to answer him.

The path leads off towards the west, but is overgrown with a variety of ugly, pricky foliage.  Low down, as Bug's level, it looks clearer.

The group trudges along the wet path, the branches of the trees and bushes occasionally blocking their passage and needing to be cut back.  The air is moist and stagnant, and smells of a combination of dead plants, animals, smoke, feces, and the occasionally surprising pleasant scent of a wild flower.

After some time (should have been five minutes considering the distance, but here it took maybe ten minutes), you come to a rickety old foot bridge, which crosses a small, lazily flowing part of the Soggy River, or so you guess.  The path crosses the bridge, which appears unkept and unsafe, but looks like it may support your weight.

At the foot of the bridge, on your side, lie the remains of a large tortoise, upside down on its shell, but with no head and just two legs remaining.  The hard bottom shell appears to be crushed in, a bit.

As you gather at the foot of the bridge, you hear a loud scream coming from behind some dense bushes on your side of the water.  It does not sound human, and it lasts for a good five heartbeats.

Nico hides, Tara draws her big weapon, and the others try to see what is there, but can't.

Suddenly a huge rock (1' diameter, flattish) comes flying over the bushes and lands amongst you, luckily hitting nobody; and you hear something running quickly through the bush away from you.

Lorund tries to get to where the rock was thrown from.  He goes back up the trail about fifteen feet and finds a way into the bushes.  There is a small space there, which he can see from a point just off the path, where the rock and the voice likely came from.  Whatever threw them is gone.

Daergast and Tara look for a path from where the rock-thrower was, but
there is none. It seemed to have gone straight through the bushes.

The group wonders if this is the fabled soggy river monster, the witch
who haunts this swamp, or even the snake-loving recluse warning them
off.

Daergast makes the snappy decision to continue across the bridge and along the path, and other follow behind.  The bridge is rickety, but surprisingly, it holds together as you all cross it (one at a time).

The path continues, and in fact gets even tougher to navigate.  You feel you are being watched the whole time, and are unsure if it is one of the aforementioned swamp denizens, the marsh itself, the Licktoad Goblins, the gods of kismet laughing at your folly, or just your overactive imaginations.

At one point you find a bone of what looks to be a human forearm.  It is dry and dirty, and looks to have been this way a long time.

After about five minutes of traipsing and cutting, you all hear a noise like a branch cracking, on the trail behind you.  Bug jumps and says, "What was that!?"

Nico will motion to Daergast.  I"m pretty good at that sort of thing, I'll give it a try.  But let me suggest instead, why don't I just stay here and you all move ahead a bit.  Then you'll know where I am hiding, and if I'm discovered, you can come back and help when you hear me hollering.    OR, if whatever it is moves past me, I'll be behind it to alert you when it catches up to where you're waiting?  Say go up another 50 meters on the trail and wait?

Two of the group hide in the bushes while the rest head further along.

After a wait of just a few minutes, Tara and Nico hear something coming down the path.  They see a strange creature, and Nico recognizes it by its description: a sinspawn.  A bizarre humanoid with legs reminiscent of a dog's, with the heel up where the knee should be.  It walks cautiously, with a strange gait, past the two and toward the rest of the hiding party.

(Hide checks please, for Shan, Daergast, Lorund and Lorus)

Nico catches up to Tara in short order (1/4 movement speed through the brush, so 7.5 for Nico and 5 for Tara), but both of them fall behind the sinspawn quickly as it either knows better how to navigate here, or it's just plain faster (1/4 movement is 10 for it).

You see it glance back as it runs from you, and make an extra effort to get away.

It could be it wanted to tell you something, or maybe it just wanted to follow you and your numbers and your sudden appearance behind it scared it off.
