Some of the group have no problem climbing down, but Lorus gets stuck half way down, and the others help him get to the bottom.

Bug looks thoughtful, then asks, "Is a swamp the same as a marsh?"
And a loud, shrill call of a bird or other animal seems to answer him.
The path leads off towards the west, but is overgrown with a variety of ugly, pricky foliage. Low down, as Bug's level, it looks clearer.

Does the scream sound at all humanoid? Or animal?
If it sounds like a person, Nico will move in that direction, Rapier at the ready.
The sound may have been humanoid, possibly human, but you can't be sure.
Tara can find no spot soft enough to sink into.
Lorund tries to get to where the rock was thrown from. He goes back up the trail about fifteen feet and finds a way into the bushes. There is a small space there, which he can see from a point just off the path, where the rock and the voice likely came from. Whatever threw them is gone.

Neither Daergast nor any of the others recognize the sound, and as far as you know it's not any normal animal sound.
Another option is to continue over the bridge and along the path. Yet another is to look for the goblins.
Nico asks, Do you think that bridge looks sturdy enough?
"But... what if it's too big, or too dangerous to trap? What if we do trap it? What will you do with it then?" Bug seems worried.
Nico will motion to Daergast. I"m pretty good at that sort of thing, I'll give it a try. But let me suggest instead, why don't I just stay here and you all move ahead a bit. Then you'll know where I am hiding, and if I'm discovered, you can come back and help when you hear me hollering. OR, if whatever it is moves past me, I'll be behind it to alert you when it catches up to where you're waiting? Say go up another 50 meters on the trail and wait?

Lorund tries to stay as still as possible, while shifting from his scimitar to his longbow.

Here's a rough map of where you guys are. I hope it's self-explanatory, but if you have any questions let me know. Also, if you don't like where I've placed your character, let me know where you think he or she should be.

Lorund nocks an arrow and looks at those around him questioningly.

"Yes, counting to fifty is always a wise thing to do..." says Bug, looking down at the ground.
You're not sure if he's joking or serious. Or crazy.
As it quickly become apparent they are NOT going to catch it, Nico tells Tara to give it up, and suggests they return to the group.
No sense in getting ourselves too far separated from the group. If the thing isn't after us, it'll come back. If it is, it'll come back. We just have to be on our toes when that happens.
Nico suggests, You outdoor experts, were those really birds? Could that be goblins communicating, coordinating for an ambush of their own?
