One group consisting of Bug, Daergast, and Slug head off to the goblin village.  It is a short trek, and no dangers are found along the way, even though the marsh is just as creepy and difficult as ever.

You reach the village and move to the building where you put all the unconscious goblins.  As you climb the small ladder at the end of the platform, you look up and see Walthus Proudstump, leaning against the building you are about to enter.  He looks a bit surprised to see Slug, since he was not among the group last time he met them.

He is a middle-aged Halfling, with a hand-axe and a small longbow.  He seems dressed for the weather, and his swamp boots come up to his belt, pretty well.

"Come back to finish the job?" he says, as you reach the platform.

"For all practical purposes the job is done.  This trip is for my friend Bug, and to appease my curiosity." Replies Daergast.

The second group, consisting of Shan, Lorus, Nico and Tara, returns down the muddy path to their horses.  Tara and Shan carry the pretty chest.  None of you saw a horse for Slug, so he either didn't have one or he left it elsewhere.

Happily, your horses are all alive and well.  You untie all of them but Daergast's borrowed mare, and make your way back up the steep path that cuts into the cliff.  Soon, you're at the top of the cliffs, looking down on the marsh.  Though morning has mostly left you, there are still traces of steam rising from all around the marsh.

You mount up and start riding toward the Lost Coast Road, which will bring you to Sandpoint.

"Heh, I was just deciding whether to bury them, or wait for the place to dry and burn it down, with them in it." says Walthus.

Bug protests, "But some of them were alive when we left them two days ago.  In here."  He points to the door leading into the building, where the goblin chief had his throne, his large bed, and his treasure.

Walthus replies, "But someone came back here yesterday.  To take their ears, I guess, and finish them off.  Wasn't any of your troop, I guess?  No matter, we're better off without them.  I'll certainly sleep better at night.

I have an idea.  Let's put them in the pit and burn them.  I'll burn down the village once it dries out a whole lot more."

Daergast finds the place has nothing of value, unless he intends to harvest rotting wood and bad goblin weapons.  Actually, the weapons might be worth something.  He scrounges up 13 goblin shortbows, 170 arrows, and 18 short swords, 20 suits of leather armor (all small sized, and of questionable quality).

OOC: I will give you 10% of book value for these items (small sized weapons and armor cost the same as medium sized), so 78gp

Regarding the letter, Bug knows that an unknown scourge destroyed the colony of Brinewall on the first day of Sarenith in 4687, just a few days after the date on the letter.

Ameiko reads the letter, sitting in the Rusty Dragon, and shakes her head.  Though it is about her family and some tragic events they suffered, she does not cry.  Instead, she seems fascinated, reading it silently again and again.  She hides the letter and stays up late, and thanks you all for finding it.  She offers you all free rooms and meals (but she doesn't say for how long), and produces free snacks for everyone in the tavern.

Over the next few days, Ameiko grows more obsessed with the idea that she has a family secret yet unsolved.  And the word "heir" in the letter seems a bit much to her.  Her father hadn't spoken like that, though he had hinted that the family's past was greater than its present.

Once the idea of going to Brinewall Castle is raised, her eyes sparkle.  It has been a few years since her last adventure; that had ended badly, and one of her good friends had perished.  After a few days, she realizes there is an opportunity with Sandru's trade caravan heading north.  Sandru has been recruiting for new caravan guards, and his plan is to go to Roderic's cove, and he's considering going farther north to trade with a large Shoanti tribe there.

In the Rusty Dragon are some old faces and some new.  Two young brothers, nephews to the barkeep Mr. Fish, named Lincon and Eely Fisher, recently turned in 20 goblin ears themselves, and were rewarded appropriately.  They have been hanging around, not doing much, since their father, a fisherman, died a year ago.  Shan has gone off to Magnimar to have the sword repaired.  Lorus, after getting his share of the treasure, has disappeared.  Aneka Avertin has joined, Sandru has hired a few locals to join his caravan, but it concerned for its safety, so he's considering hiring a young man who has recently arrived, named Kiyo.

Ameiko's idea is to go along with the caravan.  She heartily invites all the heroes to join her, citing travel and adventure as the reason for going.  Her friends Shalelu and Koya are coming too, and those of you who know them will find yourself being courted by them to come along, too.  It is a journey of two to three weeks each way.

(OOC: Roleplay to your heart's content.  Please welcome Kiyo, aka Cybersavant, to the game.

Also, please distribute your treasure as you will, and ensure your character sheets are up to date with new purchases, etc.  We won't start the next leg until your character sheets are done, and you've accepted (or rejected) the offer to join the caravan.)

Three days after your return from the caves, a young Tian man enters the Rusty Dragon at dinner time and asks to see Ameiko.  When she enters the room, she yells, "Takashi!" and runs to give him a big hug.  You wonder if this may be a long lost lover, but that thought is extinguished when she very publicly introduces him to everyone as her "Little brother Takashi," just in from Korvosa.  Takashi is dressed in simple (and dusty) traveling clothes, a backpack and a few exotic looking weapons (but no katanas).  She introduces her staff, all the potential caravaners including all of you, and anyone else she knows in the Tavern, which, actually, is everyone except for one young woman sitting in the corner.

After that, much time is spent at her table in the tavern, and later in her private chambers, as the two catch up.

Silug sits quietly drinking from what most would consider a small pitcher rather than a mug.  And the content of the large mug was obviously based on some very strong dwarven ale, but whatever else was in it made most turn their noses us in disgust.

After Tara's comment, Slug stared into his mug for a moment.  Tara had almost decided that he was just ignoring her and was about to turn her attention elsewhere.  But Slug quietly replied, "You want me to stay?  To help carry treasure and fight more goblins?"

To Tara, Slug didn't seem happy about the prospect.  Silug had thought about the possibilities.  He could continue to run and hide, fighting his battles alone.  Or, as he thought Tara was offering, he could do this service for these others as a sort of penance for the evils he'd done in his past.  At least if he stayed with this group, he'd get to look at Tara a bit.  She was, after all, prettier than most of the women a half-orc were allowed to look at - especially one with his past.

"Sure, I'll stay."

Kiyo Aki-jin

Kiyo sits and thinks. Ameiko doesn't know anything about either The Crescent Moon or The Rising Sun. He'd ventured here for nothing it would seem, but for an offer from the man called Sandru. His caravan needs help abd at least it's headed in the right direction. Far better to travel with a group than alone. Kiyo's neveer seen a caravan and so doesn't know what to expect, but from what he's heard of Ameiko they'll be in good hands. Kiyo sips his tea again and observes the patrons of the Rusty Dragon.

Kiyo appears to be a youth of Tian descent. he wears loose white silk breeeches and shirt covered by a long blue robe slitted at the sides. He carries little else except a light crossbow.

Daergast seems very busy and hard to keep track off for the first few days after returning back from the expedition to the cavern and the Goblin village a second time.

He goes to the mayor to collect his reward and makes it a point to talk to Aneiko and accept the caravan offer and expedition.

He puts in his orders for some scrolls and a potion or two. This he does in several phases each with accompanying trips to the edge of town where he can be seen in silent prayer and meditation in the many copses of trees nearby.

When seen walking to and for he seems to have a distant look to his face and is lost sometimes in the past. When spotted other times he seems to be reviewing particulars of a battle in his steps and gestures and arrives at a moment of insight and then nods his head as if he found the answer he was looking for.

After a few days of this behavior he is seen more frequently back at the Inn with a look of calm and confidence in his face. He'll engage any of what he calls his group and even asks about "A caravan and how that all work", to any who will listen.

The caravan is shaping up to become quite an endeavour.  There are no less than seventeen members of the group!

Ameiko tells everyone to be sure to bring any musical instruments, songs (of any nature, we're all adults here), and stories.  It is going to be an adventure, and a fun road trip that will last a month, at least.  Her brother Takashi has decided to come as well.

Here is the lineup:
Sandru Vhiski,   Caravan Master (brother Alder died adventuring with Sandri, Ameiko, Shan and others)
Bevelek (Bev) Dalmuvian    (Experienced Caravan Guard/Driver)
Vankor (Van) Dalmuvian     (Experienced Caravan Guard/Driver)
Ameiko Kaijitsu          Bard, proprietor of the Rusty Dragon, and descendant of the writer of the note.
Takashi Kaijitsu      Sorcerer (?) and Ameiko's younger brother.  Plays flute.
Shaelu Andosana    Elf Ranger, Goblin Slayer, Friend of Ameiko
Koya Mvashti          Elder wise woman, Cleric of Desna, Friend of Ameiko
Aneka Avertin       Baker's daughter.  Looking for adventure.
Lincon Fisher       Fisher's eldest son, budding hero.  Looking for adventure.
Eely Fisher          Fisher's youngest son, budding hero.  Looking for adventure.
Shan-Shuno        Tian Samurai, friend of Ameiko, has his own horse.
Miles (Bug) Shortwick     Halfling Cleric of the Sun (Sarenrae?).
Kiyo Aki-Jin                Tian newcomer.  Mysterious and quiet.
Tara Kingsly               Fighter.  Carries a big sword.
Daergast Unterberg     Dwarven Druid.
Silug (Slug) Farfu       Half-Orc Barbarian, escaped convict (but only a few know it)
Nico                          Half-Elf Rogue

The caravan is leaving soon.  Here is the route Sandru plans to take.  Please make any purchases before you go!

Shan returns from Magnimar after six days, and his magic sword is as good as new.  He's so happy, and feels that he got the best of the deal even though his contribution was "less than stellar" in his own words.  He presents each of you (Bug, Slug, Tara, Nico, Daer - Lorus is gone) with two gems, a Ruby and a small Sapphire (worth 500 and 100 gp respectively).

He agrees to go along with the caravan, and asks about sleeping arrangements.  Sandru says the wagons will be full, so the group will use tents.  The tents fit three comfortably, so they'll have seven brought along, one for each wagon plus an extra.  You can decide on the arrangement of yourselves, between Bug, Slug, Tara, Nico, Daer and Kiyo, though if Tara prefers to bunk with other women, that would be fine too.

Diplomacy 9

Diplomacy 17... Respectively

Daergast wishes to buy a masterwork scimitar and a suit of Lamellar leather, as well as, a heavy dark wood shield.

The cost is 632 he only has 627.

He attempts to haggle first with the weapon smith then with the armorer to lower the cost a tad.

"My good man, I have recently come into the possession of these fine gems." Displaying them of course. "My last mission was a success, but just hasn't yielded the results I need to purchase all that I'd like in your fine shop. I am leaving with Ameiko and some others in a caravan soon and it will definitely be more lucrative than riding the nearby swamp of pesky Goblins. Perhaps if you'd meet me just a small ways nearer my budget, I could return and make larger purchases at your fine business." With a smile and displaying the gems again.

If neither craftsman budges the 5 GP he'll sell his old scimitar to make up the difference. He truly would like to hold onto it as a back up though.
