So its public, I'm going with a Half-Elf Rogue, probably adding Ranger levels later.  Did the 4d6x7 thing for stats

A post a day would be a little much, three or four posts a week should be the minimum.

I would agree with that.  I check EVERY day, but sometimes its just not my character's "turn" to do something, and to be honest, it feels odd to just continue to babble on to fill time or get the check in the box for a post when he didn't have anything to say or do, really.

I will make a Human Fighter, future Shadow Dancer, if it goes long
enough. I can probably do 1 post per day, unless its useless babble
for no reason but to post 1 a day
Will use the 4d6x7 method, planning on doing it in the next few days,
been having internet probs lately, tho YIM seems to work

So it looks like we may have a Samurai, Fighter, Magus, Rogue, and maybe a Druid, and possibly a Shaman (Barbarian?  Druid?) of some kind.

Everyone, please make sure to focus on the roleplaying side of things - makes the game and characters more interesting and involving.

I think the idea of this Adventure Path is to have characters from a western (Caucasian) type setting be fish out of water in an eastern (Oriental) setting. Though having someone familiar with the new setting might come in handy if you're willing to read the material that would help us.

Wasn't there six of us?  I only count five so far:  myself, Dungeoneer, Mike Yeah, Championsguru, and David Boose.  Who's sixth and what class are they playing?

I'm asking because the party will absolutely need a cleric, and if the sixth player isn't bringing one in, I'll switch from the Rogue/Ranger to a Cleric.

Gary Thomas, not sure if you know him?

He's been emailing me off-group, so he's getting ready.  He last mentioned a Druid, but it was far from committed.

If you need a cleric, I am willing to add an NPC cleric or you can hire one.

So, right now we have 2.5 fighters (Fighter, Samurai, Magus), 1.5 Wizards (Magus and Wizard), 1 Rogue, and 1 potential Druid.

If Gary plays a Druid or Cleric, the party is pretty balanced I guess.

By all means, please, no one mistake my comment about a cleric to be a complaint that someone ELSE isn't running one!  I'm just 'old school' about balanced parties, and too often I've seen TPKs from an imbalance rearing its head at the most inopportune time.    If we have one, great!  If the GM wants to put in an NPC, that's great too.   Druid is not bad but in my experience not a 'good enough' substitute for a cleric.

That said, I can play a cleric if the above alternatives are not preferred, I'm open to it either way.

I played in a one shot game at a local con. We had a party of 6
Clerics, all had different domains, some had spells the others did not
have. We were on our way to a Temple complex, for some kind of Grand
Meeting.
It was a long time ago, dont remember details, but, we won
recognition for original thinking in that game. We made it to the
temple by the end of the game.

stores talked about how others buy the stuff. But, we never met
except at the 2 day con. So, now, nearest con is a couple hours away,
but, we dont hear about it, unless someone finds out a website for it

Hi all,

A few notes and updates...
1. I've updated the character creation thread with an addition: If you roll using 7 x 4d6 and get bad results, you may use a 15 point buy.

2. Please use the dice roller at http://dice.evildm.net/index.php, sending email as part of the roll with a description of what the roll is for.  If you used another roller to roll your abilities, please use this one.  I've been in other games where the GM used the honor system, and that broke down and the game ended up using this dice roller in the end.  If we go this route from day one, I think it will avoid any situations of mistrust between players or players and GM.

3. There was a question about max hit points per level versus average + 0.5.  I think we'll try the average + 0.5.  It won't make a difference at first level, so we'll have to see at 2nd and subsequent levels how it works.  I've only run one Pathfinder adventure before, and the characters were a level lower than the suggested level, and there were only five of them.  They had no problem defeating most of the monsters, and there was not real fear of them dying a fast death, though granted they had a few powerful items that helped them.

Questions, comments always welcome...

Average is 3.5 for a d6, so after adding 0.5 it's 4 - no rounding required.  Half plus one is another way of saying the same thing.

for a d8 it's 5 hp
for a d10 it's 6hp
for a d12 it's 7hp.

And I'm having no probs with myth-weavers...

I was thinking about asking that, but I have created a folder on my google drive.  I'll store your character sheets there, or links to them.

I would prefer them on Mythweavers or something similar, because then they can be up to date.  But, if you use google docs, I can share your character sheet there with you so that you can update it and I'll see the updates.

Which would you prefer?

Hi,

Looks good, but I have a few questions...

Where do those extra cantrips come from (Breeze, Jolt, Scoop, Penumbra, Drench)?  They don't appear to be from one of the four source books.. They are 3rd party spells, they are on the SRD so I just included them. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/

What are his opposition schools?  Please put them on the sheet.  I knew I forgot something. Enchantment and Illusion.

What is his favored class bonus?  On the sheet please, at every level. It's down in the notes. Favored Class Bonus for 1st level: Wizard: Select one arcane school power at 1st level that is normally usable a number of times per day equal to 3 + the wizard’s Intelligence modifier. The wizard adds +1/2 to the number of uses per day of that arcane school power. It adds three more uses to his Force Missile Arcane Power. This is an Elf Wizard alternate Favored Class feature in the APG.

Also, all knowledge skills are class skills for wizards, right? Yes.

Hi,

I've got three completed character sheets, one incomplete, and two MIA.  There's still time, but the sooner you get them to me the sooner we'll be able to start :-)

Please keep a few things in mind:

Rule set: Sticking to the Paizo four basic books (plus for me, Game Mastery and all the Bestiaries, and all the sick beasties I can think up on my own!), except when I specify otherwise.

They're all here.

If there's a discrepancy during the game, and I have to make a ruling, remind me to add it to the Rules thread.

Also, please add a description (both physical and personality) to your character sheet.  Your characters are young and bright eyed (well, most of them) so you don't need a long history, but some background beyond what I've asked concerning you knowing one of the NPCs would be nice.

In case anyone's wondering, you just might find a healer very early on in your adventures....  Be nice to him or her (or it).

Is it just me, or do others think that either Lorus or Lorund should change his name?  Both are arcane casters...

Cheers,
Mike

Usually, its two traits total unless you take a feat that give you more.
And traits are usually restricted to ONE of a kind, such as ONE Regional, One Religious, One social, etc.  So you can't doubleup on "combat" traits.

Pathfinder has lots of traits, if you go to the Paizo site, you can download the "Traits" web enhancement file that shows you all except the Adventure Path traits, which are in the Jade Regent Player's guide (also available for free download at Paizo.com )

No, just two traits.  From  http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/advancedNewRules.html#traits

Or a campaign trait from the player's guide:  http://paizo.com/pathfinder/adventurePath/jadeRegent/v5748btpy8mh3   (it's free)

Rules for choosing traits are that you can choose two, but max one from each of these categories: [Combat, Faith, Magic, Social, Campaign, Race, Regional, Religion]

I believe that web enhancement is pretty old (pre-APG).  The APG has a newer version of the same thing, essentially.

Note that the religion traits in the SRD are de-Golarified.  Here they are in their Golarion incarnations.  They are essentially the same but they have gods rather than alignments.  I will let you choose yours based on either.

These are from the APG:

Religion Traits
Religion traits are tied to specific deities. The following
religion traits reference the deities presented on page 43 of
the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook.

Asmodean Demon Hunter (Asmodeus): Raised in the
church of Asmodeus (whether or not you are currently
a follower), you’ve focused your indoctrinated fervor
primarily on the elimination of demons. You gain a +3
trait bonus on Knowledge (planes) checks about demons
and a +2 trait bonus on Will saves against mind-affecting
spells and effects from demons.

Calistrian Courtesan (Calistria): You worked in one of
Calistria’s temples as a sacred courtesan, and you know
how to f latter, please, and (most of all) listen. You gain a +1
trait bonus on Sense Motive checks and Diplomacy checks
to gather information, and one of these skills (your choice)
is always a class skill for you.

Child of Nature (Gozreh): You have been blessed by
Gozreh to be as comfortable in the wilderness as you are at
home. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Survival checks to find
food and water, and a +1
trait bonus on Knowledge
(nature) checks. One of
these skills (your choice) is
always a class skill for you.

Divine Warrior (Iomedae):
From an early age, you were trained
by a militaristic order of clerics. You
are devoted both to the teachings of
Iomadae and to spreading those teachings
by force. You gain a +1 trait bonus on melee
weapon damage when you cast a divine spell
that affect weapons.

Ear for Music (Shelyn): You spent countless hours
of your youth in one of Shelyn’s temples, listening to
wonderful musicians and singers. You gain a +1 trait
bonus on one category of Perform checks and a +2 trait
bonus on any Knowledge (local) checks that deal with the
local art or music scene.

Eyes and Ears of the City (Abadar): Your religious
training involved serving in the city watch of a large city,
the primary duty of which was standing sentinel on a city
wall. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Perception checks, and
Perception is always a class skill for you.

Flame of the Dawnf lower (Sarenrae): You have been
raised to view yourself as a blade in Sarenrae’s service,
or you have taken that duty on for yourself. Whenever
you score a critical hit with a scimitar, you deal an
additional 2 points of fire damage to your target.

Fortified Drinker (Cayden Cailean): Cayden Cailean’s
holy brews invigorate your mind, making you less
susceptible to mental attacks. Whenever you imbibe
any alcoholic beverage, you gain a +2 trait bonus on
saves against mind-affecting effects for 1 hour.

Guardian of the Forge (Torag): Torag’s sacred
duties are to protect the faithful, take lessons
from the great craftsmen and strategists of the
past, and prepare against dark times. You receive
a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (engineering) and
Knowledge (history) checks. One of these skills
(your choice) is a class skill for you.

Magic is Life (Nethys): Your faith in magic allows you to
ref lexively use the energy of any spell effect on you to save
you from death. As long as you are under the effects of any
spell, you gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against
death effects. If you are reduced to negative hit points while
you are under the effects of any spell, you automatically
confirm stabilization checks to stop bleeding.

Patient Optimist (Erastil): You know that all things
pass in time, and are used to having to repeat arguments
multiple times to convince even the most stubborn
believer. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Diplomacy checks
to inf luence hostile or unfriendly creatures, and if you
fail at such an attempt, you may retry it once.

Starchild (Desna): Desna sensed your love of travel
and promised you would always be able to find
your way home. You can automatically determine
where true north is. You gain a +4 trait bonus
on Survival checks to avoid
becoming lost.

Undead Slayer (Pharasma):
Instructed at a young age
in the tenets of the faith
of Pharasma, you view the
undead as abominations that
must be destroyed, so their
souls can journey beyond to
be judged. You gain a +1 trait
bonus on weapon damage
against undead.

Veteran of Battle (Gorum): You have
fought in several battles, and each
time felt the presence of Gorum
guiding your sword-arm, making
you ready to act at a moment’s
notice. You gain a +1 trait bonus
on Initiative checks, and if
you are able to act during
a surprise round, you may
a draw a weapon (but not a
potion or magic item) as a free
action during that round.

Wisdom in the Flesh (Irori):
Your hours of meditation on
inner perfection and the nature
of strength and speed allows you
to focus your thoughts to achieve
things your body might not normally
be able to do on its own. Select
any Strength, Constitution, or
Dexterity-based skill. You make
checks with that skill using your Wisdom modif ier
instead of the skill’s normal ability score. That skill is
always a class skill for you.

You still only get two traits.  You don't have to choose a campaign trait if you don't want to.

All I need is some way you know one of those NPCs.

If you want to keep the campaign trait, you'll have to remove one of the others..

I might also add, if you don't mind my suggestion:  With a WIsdom of 18, you'll get a daily bonus spell up through each level of spells you get up to Level 4 spells (meaning when you're 7th level Cleric).

Another healing spell is always nice!

Off we go.

I was going to write in my first post: "Please provide a description of your character in your first post, as a way of introducing your character to the others."

But I forgot.

So, if you get a chance, please do so.

"Certainly, but what are ya ya Doin', down the Well?". Replies Daergast.  A medium built Dwarf witha combination of blues, blacks and earthly tones on his clothes and leather armor.  Wearing a pack and carrying a sword sheath. Tying off and lowering a rope as he speaks.  Having Blue upon Blue eyes and a black beard and hair.

Yes you can delete the first post as I reposted . Also, are you using
new google groups or old? Personally the accessibility of the new
google groups is shoddy at best. Apparantly, not enough testers.
When I am in old google groups, as long as someone else has posted,
or I have not particularly checked with device in hand I receive a
prompt:NEW... New google groups stil Beta. If my first
recommendation doesn't work and we all should switch to old groups
prob. solved; until they switch the bulk of their techs to new google
and then should we transition. Ran into this a lot of late.

I'm not receiving, my own emails back. I do on mine and Mr. Yeah's
though. The new format is a bear. I'm gonna log onto a laptop,
desktop, and tablet soon and compare. Mostly I think I hit two
glitches there. Well, 1: Interface of two operating systems is all.

Somehow, I got into a 'tree' listing, about 25 messages per page.
ARGGGGG!
Can't find a way to turn it off.

Was clicking around, because the 'email' is driving me crazy, I want
to read it all in one place, not snippets every now and then.
Can't concentrate on what's going on 30 seconds at a time.

And honestly, people all replying to different posts makes it nearly
impossible to follow the flow of it! Not that you shouldn't reply,
but groups displays them ALL out of order!

Suggestions?

Does your email have "conversations" view?  Gmail has it and Outlook does too.  I personally don't like it, but it groups the email threads for you.

But if you go to Google groups, and click on a subject, you see all the posts in a tree?  There's a toggle at the top that changes it to a List view:

I guess tree view is what's frustrating.  This message for example, is NOT at the end of the string, its up in the middle, with messages days older both before and after it in the list.  Is there no way to sort the list by date and stop the intermeshing?

I use Gmail, so being able to keep track by email is just not going to work for me.  I NEED to see the whole thread, from point a to point b in a flow.

I'll keep messing with it.
