You awaken rested if not refreshed.  The rain stopped in the middle of the night, and the water has been draining from the plain into the marsh, and then from the marsh into the sea, since.

After warming up and drying out by the small fire Daergast started, you pack up your stuff, secure the horses, and get going.  In truth, it is a comfort to know that Sandpoint is not too far off, and you can always retreat to there if need be.

Trudging through the muck is not fun, and briefly consider following the cliff instead of the path.  But a closer look at the cliff shows that a goodly amount of runoff is still cascading in several places down the cliff face.  So through the muck you go, following the path from yesterday.  The marsh is quiet, save the running of water down so many little streams through it.  After a while your feet are soaked in mud, but there's nothing to do but continue on.

Soon, you find yourselves back facing the cliff, covered in vines and long-thorned nettles.

You're at the bottom of the cliff.  It doesn't take too long to find that the most dense area of nettles covers a large dark hole.

Daergast thinks he hears (over all the water dripping) some scraping sound coming from the hole.  He can't see into it past the mess of vines and nettles.  Listening further he hears nothing more...

Daergast quietly unsheathes his similar and looks to the others to do the same.  He waits a second and attempts to remove some brambles quietly.

Seeing Daergast trying to be quiet, and increase access to the cave, Nico will pull out his sword and 'stand guard' as the dwarf's attention is on the brambles.

Poking with the scimitar reveals the hole is pretty wide, maybe eight feet.  Also, that the brambles have long thorns that will likely prick you if you try to move them with your hands (DC 12 Reflex save to avoid).

(I can't see the pic I attached, so I assume it's broken)

As you enter the natural, smooth but uneven walled passage, your eyes adjust to the darkness.  Deeper in, though, it is much darker.  Off to your right a small passage heads off, and about 25 feet into the cave it turns to the left.

The ground is smooth - obviously creatures of some kind have been using it for many, many years.

On the floor ahead (20' in), Lorus spots something small and red that seems out of place.

(Bug's Light spell is your only light source right now; it's cast on his club.)

The side passage goes off to the west, and is very narrow and small.  Daergast hears more of the same noise as before.  Daergast goes first, and who follows?

Daergast follows the narrow path, Tara behind him, and it opens into a chamber almost thirty feet wide.  Tara sees nothing as it is complete blackness in here.

Along one wall Daergast sees a huge web, and in the web is a spider as large as a person, sucking on the body of a huge lizard of some kind.

Tara will move into the room, if she can, and then draw her sword over her shoulder and slowly raise it, prepared to fight.  If she cant get passed Daergast, she will give him a shove, remarking, "Get out of the way!!"

Tara runs up to the spider in the relative Darkness (dim lighting, 20% miss chance) and chops at it with her greatsword.  It jumps at her, but not before she takes a chunk out of it!

Attack: 21
Damage: 3
Poison, Fort Save DC 14; frequency 1/round for 4 rounds; effect: 1d2 Strength damage; cure 1 save.

(Please make a Fort save Tara - 1 STR damage if failed)
Bug moves to the entrance, holding his club high to shed light around the room (normal lighting now).  On the way he puts his hand on Tara's back (Touch of Good, +2 on all attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, or saving throws for one round, but not on the above save).  

Shan also moves into the room, drawing his katana.

Tara slashes at the beast with her big sword and black ichor sprays all over Daergast.  It lies pinned under her sword, twitching as its life is draining away from it.

The ichor has a slightly bitter taste, reminiscent of tea with paint in it.

The cavern has nothing in it but the body of a huge spider and the half-eaten carcass of a lizard.

Bug rushes to Tara and starts fussing over her little bug bite.  (Heal: 20, 16)

Tara please roll:
one Fort Save (DC 14 to avoid 2 STR dam)
one Fort Save at +4  (DC 14 to avoid 2 STR dam)
one Fort Save at +4  (DC 14 to avoid 1 STR dam)

You move up into the cavern further.  There is water on the floor, and its slowly draining away into the rock an out of the cave.  The roof of the cave is quite low, and the floor is gtting slippery.  Soon you come to a spot where you will have to wade through the water.

Daergast stops and pulls out some rope, hands it back while holding his end tight, triple wrapped in his spare hand.  He walks along the right side in case he needs a quick handhold, or maybe it is slightly shallower.

Everyone walking through the water make an acrobatics check, please.

Shan follows Daergast and Tara in, and is soon soaked as he slips on the bottom (Acrobatics: 4).  Daergast's rope helps him to get back up quickly.

The water gets deeper, up to three feet.

Though Tara stands strong, everyone else is surprised by how slippery the ground is, and everyone but Tara takes a bath in the cool water.

Bug's little lit club goes under, lighting up the water and darkening the cavern.  But it's short lived as he gasps for air and stands up again, and the club is thrust into the air.  The water comes up to his nose right now, but if he goes further forward it will go above his head.

A few of you had a glimpse of something in the water, up ahead of you.  Bones, part of a skull with large empty eyes.

It seems impossible, but Bug turns even paler in the magical light as his wide eyes look forward, knowing what he saw.  He puts his hand on his chest.

Daergast gets up, sheathes his scimitar, ties the rope around his stomach and passes it back to the others.  He will try and stay to the right side in the shallows.  "Give me a ten foot lead just in case, keep the torches back a bit, I see just fine without them."  Then Daergast proceeds in the slick subterranean stream bed, feeling more at home than he has in a while.

After a short bit Daergast finds solid rock to walk on, though it is still wet.

The cavern here gets quite a bit larger, and continues on for some distance.  There is a passage off to your right.

(Daergast can see all, everyone else can only see 20' beyond the yellow circle of Bug's light, as dim or normal depending on your vision).

Following along, Nico thinks dry ground sounds good!  Even wet ground is better than chest deep water!

How far does the passage right go and the one straight?

Looking to the right, you can see the narrow passage goes straight and then splits into one going north and one going west.

To see what is up ahead you will have to venture forth.

Shortly after the group get on dry (well, wet) ground, and Tara puts Bug down.  You hear something, sounds like a person in armor, behind you.

Hearing something behind him, and knowing he's last in the marching order, Nico will step into that 'north going' cavern and hide in shadows after alerting the others of what he's doing.  He will attempt to let whoever it is get between himself and the group.

Daergast looking back wonders what the delay is all about and hopes that he has the hand signals correct.  Much different than the ones he, of course, is accustomed too and moves forward more with a smirk on his face and smiles as he feels the power of the wind crackle just under his skin.

You all move forward, except for Nico who is hiding up in a passage.


The wet, and very large, half-orc following them steps, dripping, out of the water onto the drier surface.  He starts to move forward, but Nico does not know if he has been seen...

As Daergast rounds the bend, he can see the expanse of the cavern before him, using his darkvision.


On the ground of the cavern, you notice what appear to be human remains.  Also, there seems to be a bit of unnatural garbage, bits of paper that have not decomposed yet.


In your minds you don't forget that something behind you is stalking you.

Tara raises her greatsword at the stalker, a very large and tall half-orc, who carries a similar weapon.

The half-orc gives a rather toothy grin and says, "Hello, Miles.  It's good to see you managed to escape the goblins.  I was honestly worried about you."
 
He visibly relaxes a bit and tries not to appear offensive, if that's possible for him. 
 
This was it.  His chance to make a new start.  Miles had been kind to him - fearful, but kind.  Perhaps he would be an advocate for him with these people.

Farfu, as the halfling has named him, is a half-orc.  He stands at 6'8" tall and weighs almost 300 pounds.
While not slim by any means, his physique is the epitome of a warrior - muscles on top of muscles.
His skin is a green tinted grey that resembles an elephants hide.
He has a short scruffy beard and his black hair starts as a mohawk and is tied with a leather cord almost to his waist.
He's wearing very well crafted scale armor and carries a greatsword, a morningstar tethered to his belt and a duffle bag on his back.
His voice is a rumbly unhuman growl that only seems to add to the negative reaction that he typically gets from most.

Put all that aside, and you're sure he's just as sweet as a little kitten.  (yeah, right)

Bug says, "Everyone, this is Mr. Farfu.  Sorry, Mr. Farfu, I forgot your first name.  Mr. Farfu traveled from Windsong Abbey to Sandpoint with Father Yung, may he rest in peace, and me.  Mr. Farfu had some trouble in the north, as I recall."


Shan speaks up.  "What sort of trouble?"  He looks suspiciously at the half-orc.

Speaking calmly and sheathing his sword, Nico speaks from his position in the cave, Hello Mr. Farfu.  It would seem you're no stranger to Bug, and lets hope no threat to us.  How do you happen to be following us?

Nico will step out of the cave, empty handed, and move toward the group past the half orc.

"It's Silug," he answered the halfling.  In his grumbly orcish voice, it sounds just like 'slug'.
"But you, all of you, can call me Slug."
 
Turning to the Samurai, Slug gives a stern look and seems to think a bit before answering.
"A misunderstanding, a simple misunderstanding with a gentleman at a tavern.  In fact, I heard before we left that he was going to be up and about in just a few weeks."

In answer to Nico, he said, "I was looking for goblins.  When I found the village, they were dead.  I followed the tracks that led out of the village, and here I am."
