First we go to where the remains of the wagon are, then I'm sure the dwarf can track it back up the road. Someone who is good at talking to people, i.e. has ranks in diplomacy, talk to Bug and get his story, he seems to be in shock.

"Has Bug always been this 'squirrely?" Lorus asks Amieko as politely as possible.

When asked where the mayor is or the wagon attack occurred, Ameiko shrugs and says, "I'm not sure, but it sounded as if she and Bug were going there after visiting the remains of Father Yung.  I'm sure the sherriff could tell you where it is"

When asked about Bug, she replies, "Well, he has a unique look, and of course he was always dressed as an acolyte when I saw him.  To me he seemed a bit strange...  Innocent, even naive.  I'm not sure if that was an act, but I think not..."

The group of well fed adventurers head off to find the sherriff, only to be told he has escorted Bug to the site of last night's attack.  To get there just go out the north gate and continue on the road about a hundred yards.

Going is slow, as the Dwarven Druid picks his way through the bushes looking for something; but it quickens after he says Ah ha! and holds up a tiny garter snake.  All are unsure if he will bite off its poor little head, give it a kiss, or put it down his breeches.

Soon enough you see the Sherriff, one guard, and Bug standing just off the road.  Bug is now wearing Bug-sized clothes, which do not seem that much larger than bug-sized ones might look, should bugs actally wear clothes.

Tara walks up to the Sheriff and Bug, and looks around, using her
experience as a caravan guard to try to visualize what happened.
Turning to the Sheriff, she asks, "Do we know for sure, that it was
Goblins that attacked the wagon? Did someone see the Goblins,
Sheriff?"

Alright Daergast will grab his snakes and use his sack to store them and then tie them off and store in backpack. This is as soon as possible roll 26.
Intrigued by nature, not really thrilled with dead priests and all, but very happy to go balance the obviously high goblin population out a bit. Daergast makes himself available. To help lead the crew to the hideout or investigate the scene of the crime.

Lorus examines the wagon, especially what is the size of the individual that was manacled down. Is is light duty or heavy duty chain? Shackles or leather strap? Are the chains still attatched to the wagon.

Turning to the dwarf he asks, "What kind of creatures have been in the area recently?"

As Bug looks around, he finds a variety of things still there, even though the wagon has been removed earlier by the town guard.  Bits of his and Father Yung's supplies are strewn about, in a manner typical of Goblins having a good time.

The sheriff tells Tara, "Yes Miss Tara, Mr. Bug saw the Goblins.  And there's plenty of evidence about."  He points to the ground.

Lorund finds nothing magical, and no lingering magical auras.

Daergast, holding a small garter snake, easily finds tracks, for it rained last night before the attack.  There are innumerable Goblin tracks, but also one set of human tracks which lead generally eastwards.  The human foot that made the tracks was bare, and it was quite large.  Daergast calculates from foot size and also depth that its owner is tall and heavy.

The others look around too, and Lorus find a dead Goblin in the woods, its head crushed in by something blunt.  The sheriff and his guard come to investigate, and Bug follows behind them.  While the sheriff and guard look over the Goblin and around it, Bug just looks at it, a sad look on his face.  He touches the Goblin, seemingly to feel if it is cold.

The dead Goblin has no weapon, but its leather armor, shield and small short bow are found with it.  It has a tattoo on its arm, a simple toad with its tongue at full extension.

Bug, grieving over his attacker's body, looks up at Lorus, sadness in his eyes.

"The story, as I heard it from Father Yung, was that he was a great warrior of the Ulfen peoples of Irrisen.  There was a long, complicated story of love and betrayal, and some kind of poison, all of which made him go violently crazy.  After killing a wealthy merchant and his wife, he would normally have been executed, but some noble in Magnimar had convinced the authorities to keep him alive and bring him to the sanitarium here.  As we transported him we were warned to keep him in his chains, and then in a blanket around that.  He was peaceful enough on the ride down, but when the Goblins attacked him he fought back.  I think they cut the blanket off him and he got out of the chains somehow.  He is big, you see, like a giant.  Seven feet tall, I think!  So he kicked the Goblins, and hit them with his chains, but I couldn't see any more as I was abducted by the Goblins."

Nico will follow along behind the first two.

I don't want to be in front, but I like to be near enough to the front of the group to see what's going on, and take advantage of anything I can do if the opportunity presents itself.

Standing upon the low cliff that overlooks the marsh, you can see the full extent of the overgrown wetlands.  The cliff curves around the marsh, going southeast from where you stand now, then south, southwest, and finally heading west on the far side of the marsh, which appears to be a few miles away.  Though it is only a few miles wide, the Brinestump Marsh looks forbidding.  It is overgrown with bushes, nettles and reeds, and has a fair share of larger trees too - cypress, eucalyptus, oak, and willow trees mostly.  From where you are you can see the Soggy River enter the marsh from a gorge south and east of you; and looking through the marsh you can spot it at a few locations within.  The rest of it is hidden by the dense and twisted flora.

(You are at the red x.  One square is 300ft.)

Looking at the path below you, you suspect the Goblins did not go this way last night - you feel you would see more evidence of their passage.  You can either head down into the swamp via this path, continue along the road hoping to pick up their trial again, or circumnavigate the swamp on the top of the cliffs.  Or you can go home to Sandpoint and enjoy a fine mean and warm bed.

Tara looks around, I dont think the Goblins went this way, but, I
think its worth checking. We may still find the Goblins, somewhere,
in the swamp."

"Well they didn't go down here let's continue down the road for a bit." says Daergast and continues on.

Looking out over the swamp from the road, Nico will comment to no one in particular, What a miserable looking place.  I hope we can find a reasonable way to get through, following the Goblins trail.  I'd hate to have to traverse that without a trail!

As you traverse the road above the cliffs, you observe more of the overgrown marsh.  Tara spots something moving, west of you, but it is too far to act upon and it is only seen for half a heartbeat.

The road follows the cliff for a bit, and soon you find another path leading down.  Daergast, and indeed others, see signs of several creatures having descended into the marsh via this route.  There is a dead toad by the side of the road, and though it is still wet from the rain it appears to have been dried, before.

Further on, the road veers away from the cliff.  You know it soon crosses the soggy river, and then heads south toward Magnimar.

South and west of you, a mile away, smoke rises from a spot in the marsh.  Just a faint wisp of it, though.

Bug, keeping his distance from the gargantuan horse behind him, says, "You don't really want to trudge through that, do you?"

Tara chuckles, "We came here looking for Goblins, and that means, we
have to, trudge, through the swamp."

Lorund quietly slogs along in the marching order. At the mention of seeing something moving in the swamp he draws his scimitar and heightens his state of alertness. This miserable place would be perfect for an ambush he thinks to himself.

Nico is somewhat 'jumpy' about this trek.  I'd much rather be in a building, where I think I have a better advantage.  Continuing to follow the first two, he keeps his weapon ready and also keeps a sharp eye out for anything that might try to surprise the party.
