Subject: Invitation to the Semiotic Society of America 2008 meeting
Colleagues:
Consider participating this
2008 October 16–19 in the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Semiotic
Society of America, to be held at the Renaissance Hotel on the Greenway Plaza
in Houston, Texas.
As modern science taught us the
necessity of specialization, so the study of signs in experience teaches
us the reality of semiotics as an inherently interdisciplinary
perspective on knowledge. Considered in this way, semiotics as the study of the
role of signs (“semiosis”) completes the intellectual revolution that modern
science began, introducing the postmodern era of science and philosophy with an
intellectual movement that is global in scope and character.
Attached are two items: a
schedule showing the framework of the meeting, and a “Call for Papers”
detailing the registration information. (Please note the importance of early
registration in order to ensure getting one of the last under-$100 hotel rooms
in the 21st century.) Please note that the Sunday
panel and group discussion will feature scholars attending the meeting from the
world outside the United States.
Feel free to forward these
materials to whomever you think might be interested in this event.
