Nero Burning ROM, commonly called Nero, is an optical disc authoring program from Nero AG. The software is part of the Nero Multimedia Suite but is also available as a stand-alone product. It is used for burning and copying optical media such as CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray disks. The program also supports the label printing technologies LightScribe and LabelFlash, and can be used to convert audio files into other audio formats.
Nero Burning ROM is a pun in reference to Roman Emperor Nero, who was best known for his association in the Great Fire of Rome. The emperor allegedly fiddled while the city of Rome burned. Also, Rome in German is spelled Rom. The software's logo features a burning Colosseum, although this is an anachronism as it was not built until after Nero's death.[2]

Nero Burning ROM is one of the most popular multimedia suites to burn CDs, Blu-rays, DVDs, and other media files. With this CD burning software, you can conveniently burn HD quality audio, video, and images to CDs, Blu-ray discs, DVDs, and a range of storage devices. Compared to UltraISO, Free Disc Burner, and PowerISO, the program comes with multiple advanced functionalities, including editing tools for touch-ups.

This DVD burning tool can be useful for people interested in converting audio or video files into multiple formats. You can primarily use Nero for DVD and CD burning. With this program, you can burn audio and video files from a physical disk to your Windows PC. Whether you want to backup the files or eliminate the need for physical disks, the program can also convert music and videos from a range of formats to MP3, WAV, AVI, OGG, etc.
You can also use the Nero CD Burner for working with video as well as audio file formats. For the latter, you can choose from MP3 Disc, MP4 Disc, AAC Disc, and Audio CD. Each option comes with a standalone interface that looks similar to the video burning screen.
Apart from sound and video editors, the tool is perfect for students and content creators. The only drawback is that the DVD burning tool takes a long time to install on the system. Moreover, it needs quite a few resources to run smoothly.

There is a lot of divided opinion on the Nero software for burning CDs, with some very vocal about it being the best thing since sliced bread, and many detractros (into whose camp I fall) who think it is just too user-unfriendly.
And let us not even speak of the "Help" section, which has directions which are clearly out of date, and refer to icons and processes which don't actually exist on version 5.5. You won't even find a section dealing with burning data CDRs! Nightmare.
No doubt the Nero defenders will blame it all on users, but go read the boards on Amazon, Cnet etc, and you'll see large numbers of people who feel the same way I do - that is not a coincidence, and it is just bad form to blame the user for a bad job done by the software designres - sorry, but when you put out something that is supposed to be used by the general public it is INCUMBENT upon you, to create a user-friendly product... especially that many experienced computer users are having the same problems, while other CD burning software out there is much more user-friendly.
Nero, IMHO, is a very versatile program, but, of course, just like Corel vs PS, or WIN vs MAC, it's a different approach than EasyCD. But it's by no means inferior. In general, all the stability issues come from a bad install or poor system configuration. I know there are problems if you have both Adaptec and Nero installed on the same system, so the Nero website provides an utility to allow you to load only one burning engine when you start up.

hmm well i sugest you dont go near easy cd and any new nreed of windows, you will find that the problem that all people have with nero is not specificly a nero issue but the OEM of the burner bundleing an old version with the drive, have had many friends complain the same and i tell them download a update and they never look back

Nero has poor cd burner support. it's latest version recognizes my old burner, which it didn't 2 years ago when i first tried nero (and the burner actually worked) it did not recognize my HP (mainstream) USB (old tech) burner, which i've had for almost a year. I won't conclude that Adaptec is a better software because it does support (both) of my situations, however, it is better in my situation.
I have used just about every burning program out there and Nero is, in my opinion, by far the best. It may have a little more to learn, but it is a complete package. I think you're forgetting how far this sort of software has come....
