The highly specific self-identified- he doesn't see himself like me, She has a distinct direction to follow. This person is a highly evolved creature, like a falcon, with a tremendous sense of purpose and skill.
The generalized identification of liberal culture lends more to versatility, jack-of-all-trades qualities, and a less specific, less passionate approach to the world.

The more I identify with Jewish culture and history, the more contextualized my path becomes, the more compelling certain choices. To the extent that passionate engagement with the present directs me towards social justice, this is a highly positive development.

It could be argued that Nazism, and fascism, also stem from extreme self-identification and sense of purpose. This is where the discourse of culture can bifurcate into a 'dark side' and positive aspect of identity-based organization: whether or not we recognize the holiness of the "other."

I have not much to report, friends, except that it is now Passover, and I kind of fell in love last weekend, and I went to the airport 4 times in 48 hours a few days ago. I'm ready to start movin' on the biodiesel van service "Chez Route" ( i.e. sherut).

write ya later!
peace,
jake
