Good day to the hapless souls (not to mention the soulless haps) who
have been waiting ever so patiently for me to once again fill your
perception with my lunatic orated vernacular.

It's been quite a while, as it tends to be. Since the last time I
wrote, I've moved back to Olympia, and experienced the High Holidays,
for the 22nd time in my life. It was quite powerful this time around,
the related preparations that turned my thoughts inward, have seemed
like apt preparation for this time of year when in Olympia the outside
world is not always enticing. I better get on pretty good terms with
myself, if I'm going to spend most of the Fall and Winter in my own
head, so to say.

Because it was one of samban's favorite books, I read "The Poisonwood
Bible" which took me months to finish. It was highly engrossing, and
it brought Africa a lot more into my day-to-day life than it would
otherwise have been, which I appreciated.

My friend Matt cut my hair right before Yom Kippur, and now I have
"Hipster Peyos". They're fun and cute. I can hide them behind my ears,
or not.

From Nov. 10 to 12 I'm going to be at "Jews in the Woods"-north, in
Pittsfield, MA. It's a gathering that's been going on several years,
with mostly youngish Jewfolks, many of whom are based on campuses in
the Northeast.

I'm back living at the Chez, which is going along just fine; it's been
a little slow for the last week, but that gives us a little more
breathing room. A couple nights ago my friend got kicked out of his
house, so I helped him bring his stuff over to live with me for
awhile. I now have three other friends living here which is a lot of
fun. In the last couple of days, some of the guests staying here have
wounded souls. That's sad to see.

The Biodiesel Passenger Shuttle project (sharedroute.org) is just
about to kick off with test runs. This weekend, Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday, we'll offer free rides from Portland to Seattle and back, each
day. My biz-ner (business partner) Benjamin, the driver of this
fun-tacular project, has been working hard at getting everything ready
for drive-time. And it seems just about all in order, with a generous
loan from my pops.

I've got the Young Oly Jew Crew organized and ready to welcome in the
sabbath bride weekly at any number of living rooms. We're up to about
50 people, which is so great. You musn't be young, or Jewish... but
you must have the "ruach".

I'm tired. It's late. I just finished a book by Rabbi Gershon Winkler
called "Travels With the Evil Inclination." A great read, I recommend
it to anyone. I'm considering running for President of my neighborhood
association on Monday... that could be fun.

A short one for the schmelves.
peace,
jacob
