Update on Professor Bidney' lecture.

I am sending you the link to Martin Bidney's interview from the Library of Congress which will be released to NPR soon, if you want to listen to it before his presentation on Sunday morning at Temple Concord.

The  Brunch Program is this Sunday, January 31, at 10:00 am, at Temple Concord, featuring Martin Bidney, Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at Binghamton University.  The program will begin at 10:30.

Professor Bidney’s talk is titled Jews and Christian Scriptural Figures in the Qur'an: Sharing Traditions.   Here is the link to the Library of Congress interview:

Martin Bidney is a distinguished and prolific scholar, whose work entails an astonishing number and variety of publications, including original books, articles, and poetry, as well as translations. He also is performer, specializing in Klezmer music. His latest book is A Unifying Light: Lyrical Responses to the Qur’an. Martin will talk about how he got interested in this appealing topic, and then speak about his latest work, looking at what happens to major figures from the Jewish and Christian scriptures when they enter the Islamic Qur'an. What do they do, what happens to them? And what do they learn and teach about their lives? He will focus on the role of stories about these outstanding people as parables, or stories demonstrating the virtues that Islam shares with what it calls the other two Abrahamic religions.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Rabbi Barbara
