Hello there, I'm Kevin. I'm interested in making my own text adventure
game, but am having some problems. I downloaded the latest Windows
source file, but that's as much as I can figure out. I looked in the
folder, but can't find out how to create a new game, or even how to
open the program. I could use a bit of help getting started.

Hi Kevin

In the 'bin' directory of the JACL zip file you downloaded is a
program called 'winjacl', this is probably the easiest version to use
under Windows. 'garjacl' is also in there so maybe run them both to
compare. Once you open that program you need to select a game file to
run. These are all in the 'games' directory in the zip file and they
all have a '.jacl' suffix. Once you select the game it will start
running automatically.

To create you own game you need to use a text editor like notepad. You
can read more about how to create a game (and run JACL in general) by
opening 'index.html' in the 'guide' directory that is also in the zip
file.

Hope this helps,
Stuart

Hello Kevin,
Welcome onboard!

You will have to download a windows prebuilt binary, I believe it is
included with JACL builds.
Your primary source of information is the JACL authors' guide, which you
can find in the guide directory as JACLGuide.html.
To get an idea about how a game should look like, feel free to check the
games folder, especially the tutorial game called tutorial.jacl. It is
also explained in detail in the guide.
And, as always, if you have questions, ideas or anything inbetween, feel
free to post here at any time and we'll try to help.
For JACL is the most simple and awesome text gaming platform! :-)

Cheers,
Rob
