Networked audio goes natively integrated into mainstream I guess :)

Interesting - I couldn't reply directly to your message through email
because my public address (mi...@haven2.com) is no longer recognized as a
list member. If others have gotten similar failure messages when replying
via email, try logging in through the Gmail account that's receiving the
message. People who don't have Gmail accounts may not be seeing the
messages at all, or be able to reply any more, which may help explain the
complete collapse in traffic to this list.

Here's ChatGPT on why Ableton Link is restricted to local-area network
use. I asked about building a peer to peer VPN to get around that issue
and this is what I got.

Note that JackTrip doesn't make the list when ChatGPT lists low-latency
networked audio alternatives.

While traffic to this list is sporadic there has been some very recent
and very interesting activity! I looked back at Mike's replies to this
group over the past six years and they all are the same gmail used for
this one. That said, AI says that the members of any googlegroup must
have an email associated with a google account and it doesn't have to be
a gmail but could reduce the ability to post or reply.

Regarding asking AI for low-latency networked audio alternatives, it
makes a difference to ask for low-latency networked or more specifically
'distributed' audio standards, rather than an alternatives.

hmm.  thanks Synthia!  i'll try an email-reply again.  sending from the Gmail address this time -- that mighta been the problem.  it's been a long time since i posted to this list...  sorry for the confusion...

Peter Kim's got a great writeup about Link Audio on his CDM blog.  one thing that leapt out at me -- only one device *listens* to the audio.  so it's a pretty different deal than what we're up to.  he also reenforces the "not for the internet, only local network" notion.

he links to a pretty neat article that he wrote back in 2021 describing a "Pandemic hacklab" and some of their experiences.  i built something similar...  :-)
