Hi,

I'm currently helping a couple of local folks over here in the UK to use JackTrip on their Windows desktops. I can't visit them to offer help due to Covid lockdown here.

Until yesterday I've only used macOS machines for JackTrip so have little experience of using audio on Windows (since Windows 95), but to help them out I set up a Windows 10 desktop yesterday and encountered similar problems to others with spurious peer parameters so I thought I'd pass on my experience...

My current hardware setup is...
  • iMac running Big Sur with Tascam Model 24 mixer/recorder/USB audio interface.
  • MBP running Sierra (10.13.6). This is my Jacktrip server which I'm trying out with a couple of my local music groups.
  • Windows 10 desktop (Dell workstation) with Griffin iMic USB audio interface.
I first installed ASIO, Jack and Jacktrip following Synthia's document from September.

Everything worked OK as far as Jack looping back locally, but when I tried to connect to my JackTrip server (macOS) I got the crazy numbers as reported by Dennis yesterday...

I found this post about using Windows 10 and macOS server...

Unlike Dennis, I found I could connect OK to the stanford loopback server and the sound quality was fine, so made the assumption that the loopback server was probably not running macOS.

In Kim's post above, I then read Bonnie's comment about QJackTrip, so decided to try installing this...

I now have QJackTrip running on all three of my machines & will suggest this to my local friends to give this a try as they will find it easier to use.

Additional comments...
  1. I had to give permission to install Jack and QJackTrip on my Windows machine. This causes panic for new users so worth noting in any instructions.
  2. From the Windows machine, I have to try connecting several times before I hear any audio from the server. I've not investigated this yet.
  3. I found various notes about disabling File sharing and have done so but have not confirmed whether this resolved the original jacktrip problem. Likewise, I have not tried running QJackTrip with this enabled to see if this is still necessary.
  4. I had to increase the buffer size 1024 in Jack on my Windows machine to get decent audio quality when connected to the local server (running QJackTrip in hub server mode). I found I could get similar audio quality at lower buffer sizes from the Stanford loopback servers.
HTH
